  • Starva have given me 30 days free, but they've forced me onto it. I don't want it, but can't see a way to remove it? Just says I'm free with 'preview' for 30 days.

  • same, but they're not asking for any sign up or anything so who cares? 🤷
also, a good way to clarify that the paid version doesn't offer anything worth paying for (for my needs anyway)

  • Ditto here. The premium 3d map looks crap imo so I'm just having to reset it to the default non-subscriber one.

  • I can imagine they get more answers like this in the survey they just put out. I have asked for an option to choose to not see any 'challenges' at all in the feedback, as I am a paying customer. Probably not going to happen..

  • I wish I could ignore all challenges with a switch.

  • Aren't there plugins that do this? e.g. Strava Enhancement Suite.

  • added to browser, thanks

  • Other reasons to keep your Strava profile private; if you are an ex Russian sub commander your run might get a like from the head of Ukraine's military intelligence* shortly after you are assassinated whilst jogging.

    *It's not actually Budanov

  • That is a very good reason to keep your profile private from now on.

  • Dredge, but I was pretty impressed by a pals great results on his rides recently. Then you look at the numbers and I don’t think my smoking and drinking pal is out as a pair and riding at world tour pace or breaking speed records.

  • Bro go moto

  • I don’t quite understand how, but it seems he records on his phone and his phone is knackered.
Good reminder not to take KOMs and segments too seriously !

  • Most likely he did a ride on the bike, stuck his bike in the car, and then drove for a bit forgetting to stop Strava.

Looking at the analysis for the ride (i.e. graph of speed against time) would show it up.

  • I've flagged a few in the past where the average speed is faster than the max speed and stuff like that. GPS errors are all over the place. Then there's people riding scooters around and e-bikes. Basically, I don't look at strava these days other than to dump a long ride in. One day I might do that tile bagging thing but I'm hoping they start talking to RWGPS so I don't need to deal with Strava.

  • Nah, it’s all door to door stuff. The 94mph was on a standard commute. The century was definitely just a ride. He also says his phone is knackered/is aware the numbers don’t make sense.
It’s more just an observation that there’s plenty false/unreliable data in the pool. I do find it interesting that I do well on long segments and badly on short ones, which I assume is because longer segments are less prone to glitches, that and people are more likely to try and bag shorter segments.

  • E bike rides, wrong activity type, poor data etc etc.
It’s annoying you need to be premium to see your friends on segment leaderboards, that’s the best bit.

  • Yeah, I probably used it more before they restricted all the leaderboard stuff. Their loss. If Strava shut down tomorrow I'd not even notice so I'm not going to pay for it.

Since RWGPS added its heat maps, I use that for 99% of my stuff now.

  • Was 3D always free?

  • Anyone else getting repeated notifications hours after someone gives you kudos? Just started happening recently. I'll get a notification when the kudos is given then hours later I'll get another one saying the same person gave kudos hours earlier.

  • I think it’s new after Strava acquired Fatmap

  • Thank you. Really like the way it works for Italy.

  • Is earth shrinking?

My commute (for two years) and Wednesday night ride has gotten consistently shorter lately on my uploads. I thought Strava was supposed to be very positive about the length and average speed, motivating me to continue cycling. But now the satellites have decided I am actually not riding as far or fast as I thought I was, I feel my whole cycling career has been a lie.

    Is there a technical explanation?

  • Thanks for enlightening me
