  • Highly tuned (and standard) 2 strokes pass the ulez.

Sounds odd but what car is it? Maybe a specific forum could help with ways to induce a egr regen. Maybe someone nearby has a copy of the manufacturers software to get a better idea of the issue. These are just generic ish answers that I have used to get help in the past.

  • mk5 golf, 1.6 FSI engine. My local garage was happy to stick the OBD on and fiddle about for half an hour FOC, and basically just said nothing really bad is going to happen so if the engine is running well just don't worry about it

  • Battling against my mum trying to get her to go back to the insurers on the valuation for my old mini - cat B. 44,800 miles 2010

    Does this seem like a piss take;

    • car was smashed early in the morning
    • knocked into a cycle lane causing an obstruction
    • was taken away later that day
    • car has OEM roof rails and roof box
    • insurers have said that she's welcome to drive out to Rochford to collect the bars and box.

Idk why but that box comment has really got under my skin.

  • Who took the car away?

  • Good point. 3rd party lorry organised by insurance.

  • I have always wondered about missing EGRs, DPFs and cats on MOTs.

EGR delete is a very common mod, despite its illegality.

  • If it was co part, doubt the parts will be there

  • UK? It's only actually illegal if it fails emissions isn't it?

  • I swear last time I googled it I got much more official answers.
Taken from the Darkside tuning website
“ In the UK it is illegal to remove any of the original emissions equipment fitted to a vehicle from the factory.”
    £1000 fine IIRC.

  • Things move slowly in France, but I finally got to collect my Mini.
The old owner was a military vehicle maintenance man. The bills are amazing. His wife is a gendarme; she was tearful to see it go. He produced a folder of history. Your perfect seller, basically.

I found a previous owner's photos of the car on Facebook (always google the registation!), which is cool. I think it would be a bit stalky to let her know I own her old car now, but maybe she'd be happy to know it's still loved. I don't know.

Anyway, a few nice surprises, like it has already had an electronic ignition conversion, and halogen headlights.

Anyway, I drove it the hour's journey home and it was great. Now it's in its new home.

  • Ah ok, didn't realise it was that clearly stated. I've only really got previous experience of cat modification, but even recently I've never heard of anyone actually fail the test on the part being missing or altered, only if emissions don't meet regulations.

3 years ago I had a 200 cell cat, tester was fully aware as we had a good chat about it. Tried a number of times to get it to pass, couldn't, so I put the standard cat back and stuck with that since.

  • maybe she'd be happy to know it's still loved.

Someone got in touch with my mum about her old yellow mx5. Lots of found memories driving down France in it.

    Lovely looking mini BTW.

  • Is that the 2l. Seen a v50 is Slough with a possible knackered diesel pump

  • Did someone on here use some sort of indy claims adjuster to get a better valuation for a written off car?

  • Looks happy in its new home! Now you need a little 205 Si to go alongside it.

  • Saw an advert, with photos of a nice red 205 diesel that was being sold due to not meeting the expanding ulez.

Looked smart and I did think about it ...

  • Spotted this mahoosive 75 year old upturned bathtub earlier, I've never heard of this make before, a 1948 Frazer Manhattan. Looks like you can get about 10 people in it.

  • Wouldn’t fit in the barn. It’s too long.
The seller was selling it because he is restoring a 205GTi.

I took a good look underneath the Mini today. It’s absolutely immaculate underneath. The suspension looks brand new, basically, looking at the bills, because it is. There is zero rust, it’s totally oil tight and straight.
I’ve done alright there I think.

  • Well done looks like an amazing find.
One thing tho , I had 6 one after the other and an MG Metro turbo, they are never oil tight!!
Check there is some in it…

  • walked past that today, there was something round the corner under a tarpaulin too.
googled the car and it was sold at bonhams for £4k a while back.

  • That's a lot of car for the money at current prices things go for. Although I'm guessing finding parts in the UK for a 40/50's Frazer is a bit of a mission.

And I missed the tarp'd one round the corner, while I snap nice and interesting cars I see when I'm out I think lifting up tarps for snaps is out of order haha. I do always play 'guess whats under that' when I see one though.

  • I have never seen or even heard of a Frazer before. I quick wiki check shows that they were made for only 5 years. So yeah. I imagine that parts are a bit of a challenge and most of the pics seems to show them in museums, rather than parked in London.

Mostly it looks like Frazer were important for pushing post-war car design. There are pics of a convertible version of that Manhattan.

  • Ah cool, yes I couldn't find much about them, and I consider you our oracle of old American motors, so if you hadn't heard of them they must be pretty obscure. If a car could tell a story, I wonder how it ended up on a street in Crystal Palace.

And after my recent flurry of big and brash American cars, today's choice spot is a stunning little European number, definitely right up @jonny 's alley, an absolutely fantastic condition Fiat 850 Spider, nipping in and out of traffic like a water boatman, great little car.
