Niche: Also a coffee grinder.

Gotcha!
I'm sure there would be a really good joke here around my lack of meta awareness but unfortunately that isn't my niche.

Anyone want a Wilfa Svart which makes weird electrical noises for free
before it goes to the tip? Wilfa have said it's not safe to use but in case anyone wants it for spares or is very technically focused to fix it.... -

Are there any other reliable rechargeable scales at the same price point or below the Black Mirror, or is that simply the best bang for the buck? Mine chews through batteries and has started playing up and adding/subtracting grams when I press the tare button. Don't wanna risk any of the no-name identical rechargeable scales Amazon offer from China as they have distinctly mixed/fake seeming reviews, e.g.:

Takes AAs which last forever.

I have the top one of those two in the photo - works well, I found it a bit annoying at first as it takes a 2 sec press to turn on rather than a quick tap (cue the tiny violins) but you just get used to it. Perhaps not the quickest in adding up weight as you add but wouldn't call it slow either.
Only needs charging every 3 months more or less but mine doesn't let me know it's low on batteries until it's too late. It's USB-C though, so a two minutes charge gives you enough to do whatever you were going to do before charging it properly.

+1
If you get one with AAs or AAAs don't forget the newer generation NiMh hold way more charge than alkalines. Look for Energizer Accu Power Plus, GP ReCyko Pro, Eneloop etc. Any of the ones that take ~1000 charges are the low self-discharge type that won't go flat in the drawer and last months in stuff like scales.

Quick update on my Hario Muzidashi. It is awesome and makes good coffee.
After playing around with making cold brew with both my usual coffee and the store bought pre-ground, I can, with some confidence, tell you that my palate is not sufficiently sensitive enough to tell them apart. I think I will stick with the store bought for now. YMMV.
Thanks for the various inputs.

To be honest I'm pretty much the same, I could tell them apart, but the difference is nowhere near as stark as when brewed in a V60/Aeropress or as espresso. Felt like a waste using good beans as cold brew definitely mellows out the flavours IME.

+1 for this.
I had a Hario scales for a decade but they shat the bed following a coffee spill they should have been able to handle imo.
Chanced my arm with a WAY out-of-date warranty and replaced it with a GATOR in the interim because it was promoted well on Amazon. The GATOR is not in the same league in terms of how quickly it informs you of the weight changes, button clicks feels cheap too but it's a robust unit with a silicone mat and a weighing tray for a good price. I now use it at work where it takes a few more knocks and although it's not as good looking as other scales, I can't really fault it for the money.
After relegated the Gator I got the Timemore and have been very happy with it for the year or so I've owned it. I like the LED lights as they're more readable than a darker Hario screen. Also, the beeps are reassuring if you use the timer function. I use it a couple of times a day and have charged it once since I bought it. In terms of build quality the top-most part overhangs the main unit and protects the inner workings form splashes much better than others. Worth the extra spend if you can stretch.

Are there any UK roasteries doing instant decaf? Trying to avoid packing my aeropress on an upcoming bike trip...

I ended up ordering this rechargable My Weigh option for about £20 less than the Black Mirror, mainly because it actually has proper buttons (I forgot to say I got one with capacitative buttons some time ago and within no time it had stopped registering me trying to turn it on, so I had to return it). Definitely ugly compared to the Timemore but is still appealing to me in a solid chunky way.

Timemore question. Can you turn the auto function off? I have an espresso scale where the timer auto stops when the liquid stops. It's useless for pourover
-
• #23921
Yeah you can.
I had to turn it off.
Watched a YouTube vid 'cause I'd long since thrown the instructions away. -

I want 300g of coffee beans delivered through my letterbox every week. Ideally these beans would be in some container so I don't have to pick them individually off the door matt.
I don't want to order multiple 250g bags.
Technically I want 280g but 300g seems reasonable in case I want an extra cup some time.
How best? Who best?

Square Mile's standard bags are 350 rather than 250 grams. That's the first thing that comes to mind.
Speaking of which, seems like they've got a new decaf blend, that's nice to see.

The youngest now has an aromaboy
Any feedback on this machine? I'm kinda tempted to try it as an option. Might stash one in my locker at work for the ultimate hot-desk brewing setup.
Some of us are still struggling....
