  • It's on eBay - a "wooden" console with the turntable and the amp. I'm after the amp. Looking for someone to take the turntable. It's located in Sutton so I could pick up in the car and hold for a bit.

  • Great, thanks for the info - will read up a bit more on DSP

  • How long can HDMI cable runs be?

  • Most sources say 15-25ft. Signal degradation is an issue at >25ft.

  • You can get boosters for longer runs or send it over ethernet

  • DIGITNOW! Cassette Player – Portable Walkman Tape to MP3 CD Converter – Captures Audio Music Stereo Player via USB, Compatible with Laptop and Personal Computers, with 3.5MM Jack Earphone https://amzn.eu/d/cUB0Prp

    @hippy

I have one of these, they were a special but in Aldi/Lidl years ago (same machine slightly different branding). I converted a stack of cassettes while working from home, it worked really well but I think it ran slightly too fast and I probably needed to adjust the recorded speed by about 5% in Audacity. I didn't notice it but someone on one of the oldskool sites did.

  • @hippy
Quartz locked decks are definitely a thing, as are Walkman with line level outputs if you're looking for something a bit more quality that's going to run at the right consistent speed. Also whatever it is you decide to get make sure you're sure it doesn't chew up your tapes. ⚰️

  • Quartz locked decks

What's that, like a timing thing for tape speed? Considering how many weekends I spent in hifi stores it seems funny that I never actually had anything good when I was younger :)

I posted a Wanted and have an offer so I can give that a go. Will start with less interesting tapes I guess.

Having looked at ebay, now I want a Nakamichi just for the 80s vibes...

  • I've had a Nakamichi 600 on the list for a while, but given I only own 3 cassettes
I haven't yet managed the mental athletics to justify the cost - despite how fucking cool they look

  • Given I won't want the cassette deck once I'm done, paying for one seems silly. I could buy it and sell it but - hassle.

  • What's that, like a timing thing for tape speed?

Yeah, checks the timing is correct by some kind of sensor against a reference point and makes adjustments if necessary. Sony have something similar, but can't for the love of me remember what it's called. If you're buying something older this might help you -https://www.hifiengine.com/

  • I have a set of feet for a Rega RP6 turntable.
They fit almost every other Rega, RP2/3/6 and all Planar models etc.

Anyone want them as a nice upgrade to a Planar 1/2/3?
    £35

I bought them ages ago when I had an old school Planar 2 Plinth with the nice wood surround but abandoned the project :(

  • What should I buy to stream from Tidal on my iphone to my old amp with phono/rca inputs?

Looks like I’ll get better quality from Airplay than Bluetooth, right?

Apple AirPort Express. No longer made by Apple, but can get used from Cex for £30. Gives a combined 3.5mm analogue/digital out that you can stream to via Airplay. I use a 3.5mm to RCA cable into my analogue amp and very happy with ease of use/sound quality streaming lossless from my iPhone or MacBook Air.

  • @Hefty this. Took me a while to get mine working but once it was set up properly it was great, certainly better than Bluetooth. There's an app called Airport Utility that was useful.

  • Perfect. Thanks both.

  • I have a carpenter lined up to produce the fronts for the Tannoy Eatons to make them cat proof.

Have settled on a walnut front panel with woven brass wire mesh in front of the speaker (about 75% open - which is higher than most speaker grilles), with brass bolts holding the mesh in place.

Should be made in late-Feb with an early March delivery date.

  • I sold my entire Klipsch home cinema / Onkyo setup and got myself a pair of KEF LS50 wireless II.

Really happy with them so far, might add a sub later.

  • not to tempt you so immediately.. but i do have a KEF KC62 that I just listed for sale on some facebook audiophile groups, would do a good price for london collection

I'm ditching my second (office) setup so getting rid of LS50 (original) eventually too

  • I have a carpenter lined up to produce the fronts for the Tannoy Eatons to make them cat proof.

In other cat-related audio hi-jinks, it appears a cat paw standing on top of a Homepod Mini turns it on. Which is great at 4am.

  • Cheers, I’m Italy based though.

  • Any suggestions on where to sell not so high-end audio stuff?

I've accepted that my surround sound system that's in my loft is not going to get used again now I've moved house so I'd like to flog it but don't know where. It's Wharfedale Diamond speakers (9.4, 9.0 and 9cc) and a Denon AVR-X2300W AV receiver.

  • Avforums.com is fairly active. I've bought and sold similar stuff on there over the years.

  • Cheers. I should have thought of that given I've bought stuff from there in the past.

  • Quite like to play around with a pair of LS50, lemme know when you get around to selling them.

  • Tannoy Eatons to make them cat proof.

Got visions of a cat house party dropping some bangers.
