I've bought a large box of cassettes (remember those) back from Oz and I want to make them digital (ie. record them to mp3).

I’m going to do the same for some old rave tapepacks I can’t find online. Just going to use my kid’s little stereo and record via the line in using Audacity.

I’ve seen some no-name equipment on Amazon that has USB and looks to come with its own software, but that’s probably shit. Cheaper option, though, more compact and you could still use Audacity - but I’d use with a DC power supply so you’re not doing it with batteries.

There’s probably a much more audiophile option with a high quality cassette separates deck that has better output.

Thanks, I used to be pretty familiar with Audacity for sample chopping/editing, probably used it to do few tapes I got around to in Oz. This part of the process isn't the issue.

Re: tape deck, I'd rather not buy a new "thing". I was thinking of buying a used hifi tape deck, something flash but old and now cheap. Wasn't someone on here selling old hifi bits?

think his videos are a bit snobby but I actually bought his speakers, they're really good, and I certainly dont have much (or any?) crossover in music taste with him (punk/metal/hardcore) but he certainly knows how to make a good speaker!

Bit late to the party for that. Tape decks have been desirable for some time especially flash but old ones.

I bought a boombox in the 90's from a boot fair for £5. They sell for £700+ these days. Nakamichi Dragon are selling for £2k -> £5k.

I've been thinking about getting a sub as my Harbeth's lack a bit of lower range. Before I join Alice down the rabbit hole, any tips for selecting a sub?

Are two better than one? Do I also need DSP and a calibrated microphone?

I've heard good things about REL, and they recommend the 7tx - which doesn't suggest it needs a DSP for successful set-up

Depending on room size but 1 should be enough for normal domestic London rooms.

A calibrated microphone and REW can help to set it up, working out positioning and crossover.

DSP is where you're heading in todays market. It's not a bad destination.

What you should look for in a sub is a rigid cabinet.
