Yeah - I’m actually surprised how many induction hobs even flush mounted ones aren’t inset into the worktop.

Ikea. IIRC, they're rebadged Electrolux.

That would require a very accurate cut-out, not the usual smash it out with a jigsaw as it'll be hidden under the edge of the hob.

Any recommendations for a bean to cup coffee maker? Looking to pick one up second hand for 2-300quid if possible. Moka pots are just an absolute pain to wash up.

bean to cup coffee maker
I’ve been very happy with my De’Longhi ESAM4200, purchased in 2016. If it broke, which seems unlikely, I would buy as close a model to replace it as I could get. Lack of features suits me—dial for grind, knobs for coffee and water quantities.
Edit: can still be had new from < £300. Maybe.

Cheers for the recommendation Delonghi- went a second hand the ECAM250.23.SB in the end for around 180. Struggled getting it going at first, but I'm preferring it to the moka pots so far.

I bought a Japanese model rice cooker which I have no idea how to use. Could a kind stranger fill in some blanks for me? (There is no English menu as it's not sold outside of Japan or China since it's 100V only)

Continuing the induction hob chat..
Anyone use ones with a built-in extractor? They look pretty golf club but I don't know how effective it'll be, especially as we will probably be recirculating rather than extracting.

Spending $$$ on a recirculating extractor is a mugs game

Currently got some ancient hand-me-down Gorenje washing machine which I've never really been that impressed with in terms of how it washes, but couldn't say no to because it were free. Wish a baby on the way, I'm envisioning many more washes. Would I notice the difference with a newer/pricier machine? Am considering a lower-end Miele.

Yes, expect a fuck ton more washes, we've got a miele and I think it's great but I'm not sure it washes better than our old Beko one, it's a hell of a lot quieter though and uses a lot less water. You can also stop the machine at any point to add clothes you've forgotten to put in, having the machine dose automatically rather than having to add it via the drawer is a nice function to have.
I reckon most modern washing machines are much of a muchness when it comes to the actual cleaning for miele you're really paying for the extra features and supposed durability. My main advice would be to get a least an 8kg one for all the extra washing you'll be doing rather than any specific brand.
If you do want a miele though checkout the miele outlet offers online as there's pretty big savings to be had.

I've bought second hand Miele washing machines.
The first cost £50 approx 10 yrs old. I replaced the shocks and springs myself which was very simple and it ran for 5 years fine. Left it when we moved.
Second cost £100. Approx 5 yrs old. Been fine for two years so far. Gets used everyday.
You can repair them fairly easily with some googling. They just weigh a ton. -

Yes, many more washes.
Main difference I found when getting a new machine was it had lots more options for shorter cycles which is useful when you are trying to wash a variety of stuff or just want to lob that newly vomit splashed top in for 20 minutes.

Expect to do a wash a day on average going forward.
Also worth thinking about a dryer. Ours is invaluable over winter.

Just moved into a new flat, does anybody recognise this bin system and might know what size bags to get? I can’t seem to find any manufacturer details and all the bags I’ve seen are massive compared to this.

i don't, but could work out the rough volume, say 30cm wide * 20cm deep * 50cm high would be 30L (30,000cm3) etc.

Could try plastic free and skip the bin bags?
We used a system like this for 3 years without plastic bags, they just need washing every other week and a compostable bag for the kitchen waste.

My Miele induction hob has just blown up, or rather the circuits on the left side. Not great for only 4 years.

They don't seem to sell matching bin bags.
I'm all about the nice features or I wouldn't have a £40k+ kitchen.
Would need to get the worktop recut Insitu though and can't imagine that's cheap.
