Oh well, you win some you lose some. I did get some nice advice from the FW delegate on how best to post one pound coins (tape them to a snugly fitting piece of card), so it’s not all bad I guess…

I'm on 240k yeah. I'm just going to try and bump it over 250k because that seems like something I should do.

Hmm interesting. I have FWC brevet card which, and I can't remember where, I was under the impression I just validated it myself for DIYs etc. I suppose I can see the extra brevet card fee for the FWC, but maybe the fees can be done retrospectively considering the achievement?

Seeing as the only thing that you didn't do was buy a card in advance, I don't see why the FW delegate can't let you buy one retrospectively or just accept the points once you have posted off your £1. The challenge is based on trust anyway. He accepted my four points for 2022 season. One was a DIY and the other was validated by the organiser in the normal way (I didn't have a FWC card at the time).

The crux might be the entering in advance of the ride.
The one main thing you need to do with DIYs is let the org know BEFORE you ride it. That might be the issue. Even if they don't see the email saying you're going to ride something, my org will be ok because the email was sent before I left the house.

vance of the ride.

Yep. I've got out of bed and submitted my DIY 10 minutes before getting on my bike before now.

Maybe, yes, I wondered if the DIYs were entered properly in advance. The rides need to be entered in the normal way with a virtual brevet card. No one knew I was turning up with one gear in advance and my points (four precious points) were accepted to the FWC.

I entered almost all my rides just before I leave the house, simply because I'll sack it off if I've not recovered enough or say the weather is too shite. I'd enter the night before but then find some storm had blown in earlier than expected so I leave it late, unless I'm lacking motivation on a multi day block and then I'll enter in advance - that's usually enough to force me out the door.

The only time I've ever seen a fixed brevet was Ivan's after the ALPI4000 1400k - he got stamp/s off the organiser on a little booklet.

Yep I did a lot of my Fixed RRTY with DIY rides as they were still not back to full force with lockdowns and covid still going strong at the time. I was told they're to be treated like Perms and self-certified on the fixed brevet (I think there's a mention of how it's a trust based system for perms but doesn't specify for DIYs on there).
I had ridden one ride before getting the Fixed Brevet Card as also hadn't realised it was a thing, I asked if that could be included on the tally and was told 'Adding already completed events onto the card is not possible: the Audax ethos is to claim success only for previously accepted challenges.' So much like Hippy says.

All of my DIY’s have been entered at least the day before, and all of them have been validated by the same DIY organiser. They’re literally all recorded there on the AUK website, which is where I also got my points total from.
It seems to be that the only thing I didn’t do was purchase a £1 brevet card for each challenge from the FW delegate at the start of the season.
It’s highly frustrating as I was acting on the advice of the DIY organiser (and why would I doubt someone with countless years of Audax experience?). It’s even more frustrating as there would have been nobody at the end of any of my audaxes to validate it anyway.
(BTW, not pointing blame or anger towards either the DIY organiser of the FW delegate.)

I also can’t work out from the regulations if I need a brevet card for each of the individual rides I completed for the FWC, or just one for the season.
-
• #11839
You just need the one for the year.
-
• #11840
Or at least I just got the one for the year and ended up with 20 points when I submitted my elligible ride dates to the FW delegate at the end of the season.
-
• #11841
Could they get one now, just before the season ends, enter one ride and then also chalk up all the rest? How do they know it wasn't filled out afterwards?
-
• #11842
You have to get the FWC card signed by the organiser of each ride, I assume with DIY you can self notify, but you need to track on the card which is submitted at the end of the season.
I cba filling the card out/remembering to get that validated as well so haven't bothered with it personally.

• #11843
I think the FW delegate would check the date the Brevet is issued, and then only count rides that were completed after the date of issue.
-
• #11844
Just got a final reply from the FW delegate: it’s a big fat no to me getting any awards.
I’m going to order a brevet card today and attempt a SR series in November just for the lols.
-
• #11845
Yes, the FWC bloke has some history for being a bit of a shit.
-
• #11846
Doesn't sound like you've had good advice on this issue which is a pain but just to add if you're looking to get a fixed SR this or next season, this is different to the FWC and my understanding is that you'll need the Fixed Wheel SR brevet card (that's how I've done it in the past). That's another £1 coin secreted in an envelope.

This is correct.

It's not over until the fat hippy sings.
I don't see any rides since 18th for Alan. He might've gone out and collected 20 points in the last weeks of Oct. I'd be quite annoyed but also very impressed if he did. :D

But you can certainly congratulate my missus who absolutely smashed the AAAs this year.
She really did impress me with some monster rides. I'm sure she was in better shape at the end of Mille du Sud than me.
Nice! Did I see you mention you’ve done 200,000m of climbing in audaxes alone this season? That’s double my total for all my rides in the last 12 months!
