  • My brother's BB needs replacing. His bike is a roughly 15 year old Moda with some sort of SRAM groupset (I forget which). This is the only photo/info he's sent me, which BB does he need to buy and which tool? Thanks!

  • GXP BSA bottom bracket, and the park tool bbt-9 (there are other tools available too which might be cheaper)

Edit- tester’s answer is more thorough 😌

  • which BB does he need to buy and which tool?

Most likely GXP, but you need to remove the cranks just to eliminate the tiny possibility of 386EVO.
Generic HT2/Ultratorque/GXP cup wrench for the former, one of at least three possible proprietary tools for the latter.

  • Black stainless spokes: are they usually painted or do they have some kind of anodise-like finish?

  • Usually it's ED (electro deposited), which is a kind of phosphate black. I think some might be powder coated, but not the main brands.

  • Thanks for that! And thanks @MCamb as well. I actually have a GXP tool so hopefully that's the one.

  • Great, that’s what I wanted to hear.

  • is there a way to get filtered water without having to use Brita/single use plastic filters?

  • Apparently you can DIY re-fill a used Brita cartridge with activated charcoal. Not tried it myself though, unhelpfully.

  • My road bike broke in August, and I haven't replaced it yet. I've got some money to replace it on the way, but I can't decide what to get.

I'd like a disc brake road bike, and I could probably afford:

    • Second hand but well used bike with di2
    • Second hand but vgc road bike with Ultegra/105 hydraulics
    • New lower end disc road bike
      -?

I don't think the ? would stretch to a Chinese frame and di2 disc groupset, unless I got a tired one off a donor bike and then sold it on.

    Any recommendations or advice?

you mean like a permanent / under the sink water filter?

  • Is a 10s M786 XT RD going to work with an 11 or 12s Shimano shifter? I’m guessing no.

  • What’s this rad little moped?

  • That is a Lambretta Vega (75cc) or Lui (50cc), designed by Bertone.

I had 3 at one point including one tuned by Kegra Racing (155cc, high comp head, reed valve etc) : embarrassed a few greebos :)

  • what’s the recommended dehumidifier for a small house? Current model (12 years old) is making “I’m really busy dehumdifying here” noises, but removes zero moisture.

  • So cool. I’d quite like one !

  • Loads on that internet around this, here’s a randomly selected quote about Shimano 11 speed MTB compatibility:

‘Rear shift ratio is around 1.1. Compatible with Shimano MTB 11 speed shifters. Shimano calls this system Dyna-Sys, same as 10 speed MTB, but they’re not compatible!’

Jtek classify your case as ‘Shiftmate X’ which isn’t a product they sell, it’s just a way to say it can’t be done : (

  • Pro tip from the florist world: put several copper coins in the water collection tank, and it will cut back the black mould growth significantly.

Can also be used to prologue the life of cut flowers in a vase.

  • I rather like the idea of cut flowers on a diet supplement of copper coins to improve prologue performance. I'd bet on the dahlias, flashy bastards.

  • I like the Meaco ones, this one is good for cold spaces but they do some good compressor types too.

  • Thanks! (but eesh the sunlit-uplands-surcharge for buying something over £135).

@Airhead thanks… that’s in the ballpark of what I’m looking to replace.

  • eesh the sunlit-uplands-surcharge

I don't think it's just sunlit uplands, something else must be going on to make the TTK66 £240 when I paid £100 for the TTK65 only 5 years ago.
