@Brommers haha, yeah the panel gaps must be for ventilation for the engine....and the hostage in the boot.

But it is just the wheels I really don't like, good shout on the Dunlops, I think the Dunlop Formula D1 style B ones from here would be a massive improvement, and even the 8 spoke Shamal-esque Exaction ones below it would look loads better than what its got now, and would be more HH obvs.

The front is like that on the MK2. Seems odd to take the front bumper off and still have the back one on.

Also as a MK2 it is not a Lotus cortina as lotus didn't build it. It was the Cortina Lotus. Do not make that mistake in MK1 circles.

Sad thing that I notice, as the bonnet is raised the car most likely has the crossflow block rather that the precrossflow so needs a bit more height to get the gt carb (downdraft) on with a decent size air cleaner so the engine does suck the air cleaner in.

I think you maybe right, have seen a mk2 cortina running granada/scorpio cosworth engine and box and suspension. But that was built as a tatty badly hand painted cortina.

If you are going to mod things now you might as well go modern ford stuff as you aren't controlled such as for historic racing.

The bonnet I can forgive as it's clearly not standard. As for the boot, if you're putting someone in there then ventilation should be the least of your problems. Finding a decent deposition site should come first...

As for the wheels I was thinking more Jag D-type Dunlops. Or Weller steel wheels at a pinch.

Why wouldn't you smooth them in if you were going to respray? Plus it's probably quite handy to be able to open them up now and then if it's a project car.

Bonnet fit kinda works imo. But the boot makes it odd. But could well be WIP.

Which makes me reminisce about the MK3 GT, hasn't aged too badly... Still looks like a watered down Torino, but that's okay...

This and the Capri GT were the two everyday cars that set my pulse racing as a kid...

I used to love them as a kid. Enjoyed a good Granada Ghia too....

Drained the oil on the Fury motor last night. Not a trace of metal in there, ferrous or otherwise! Will do a cheeky compression test and if that's all good, assume there is nothing significant wrong with the engine. Still have to pop one head off to replace the hydraulic lifters with solid ones, but that's not a big job.

I'm somewhat excited to finally fix the damn thing.

To do:

Rebuild fuel pump
New fuel lines
Compression test
New solid lifters, pushrods.
Radiator flush.
Double check MSD box to fix misfire.
Melt face.

Why in the name of god would you weld your back doors shut? Purely for aesthetics? To remove so much functionality for no reason is bonkers

My mum's old boss had one of those, it was a beautiful thing... All the bells and whistles, such luxury... Got driven around in it a few times, felt like royalty...

I had a blue TF Cortina with 26k kms on it. i stuffed it into a telephone pole being a bellend

The current owner of my mum's old mx5 wrote to her after tracking her down. Silly thing but it's made me really pleased that it's still on the road and has an involved owner.

Different wheels, but otherwise looks the same.

Edit: just noticed the roll bar that's new.

Joining in the MX5 chat, really regret selling mine a few years back. A guy flew down from Scotland and drove it home, pretty sure he's still racing it now so its getting put to good use. When I bought it vs when it went, surprisingly I never got pulled for the tiny front plate..
