  • very clean - good stuff here

  • These look good, I'm guessing you made them as it only feels like a few days ago you were asking about what to do?

Where is the bed frame from?

  • user rj, please. I can't put up a shelf

bed is from... /drum roll/... IKEA

  • User IKEA Cøzey

  • "Cozey's Ikea secret finds and recommendations" coming to youtube/tiktok/instagram/LFGSS soon

  • Yeah that looks great. Nice work.

  • Finally managed to buy our own home this year and the fit out will be starting in earnest soon (have a wedding to get over us next week and then all focus will be on apartment) so I'll be in this thread a bunch more...

I've been designing some bedroom furniture I'm planning to get fabricated by a CNC company and then I'll just assemble it myself but the concept was to raise the floors in the bedrooms to allow for storage compartments in the floors and minimise the amount of space taken up by wardrobes and the like to make the rooms feel as big as possible...

Here's one of the earlier drafts but it will be changing a small bit before production... I've seen sense and I'm going to have the framework for the platform and dividing the hatches CNCd from sheets so the lattice frame will be done away with and I want to incorporate some LED strip lighting at the underside of the bed and possibly the lockers too (maybe)...

*this may have been more appropriate in the Kitchen/ Bathroom/ Extension thread?

  • For a second I thought you are building a giant drug lord mansion with an underground dungeon.

  • Now there's an idea :)

  • Cult leader was what sprang to my mind.

So does each one of those squares open to reveal its own little stash box?

  • you'll be happy to hear I have gone full chrisluxurybitch116 on the hardware for once - opting for swarf over (my beloved) IKEA

  • Would love to hear more about this. Keep sharing please :)

  • I'm all talk, Champagne taste but lemonade budget.
Haven't had money since my contracting days, luckily the loft is still full of Flos and Tom Dixon lights waiting for a home.

  • Champaign taste

I once knew someone from Champaign. She was very bubbly.

  • Yep! I've devised a "mechanism" involving magnets...

I'll get pockets recessed into the underside of each hatch lid leaving less than 1mm of surface veneer and then backfill each of these with a steel disc and some plywood so that when the hatch is closed there will be no visible handles or fasteners and to open there will be a pair of magnets on handles that will just lift them up...

At least this is the idea...

  • That’s a good one. Unlike my spelling.

  • turned out alright - just need to oil them now. osmo matt clear, I think. not a straight wall or floor in this damn house - don't envy the joiner

  • Very smart.

and @Nahguavkire - that all sounds bonkers. Can't wait to see how it works out.

  • That's awesome! How much did that set you back out of curiosity?

  • imagine this without the smiling

  • Yeah okay so similar to other quotes I've seen from joiners

  • not a straight wall or floor in this damn house

Standard. At least you don't have elaborate coving to scribe round. One company I used to sub contract to got in rather a large amount of trouble when one of their fitters was working in a grade 1 listed building and decided it would be much easier to cut the coving and hack it out with a chisel than scribe round it. Turned out that making good was very expensive and not covered by his liability insurance.

  • Thought this would be a good place to ask about light bulbs. Idk why but buying light bulbs is up there as one of my least favourite household tasks and I've just run out of our dinning rooms ones.

Currently have these which aren't very energy efficient and blow comparatively frequently. On balance I think they are a good fit with the light. Any suggestions for decent led alternatives?

    Cheers.

  • Osram Parathom or Tala. Both LED and both a little warmer (2700k) but should last longer and use about 1/5th the energy. Think Tala have a 3 year warranty or something.

  • Cheers.

No idea why I find it so stress inducing. Probably the range of choice.
