Probably whichever one you can get faster :). I like the UA, think it’s good for the price and is v functional. Budget allowing my first upgrade would be to a Rohloff gear system tho

What’s the recall for? Must be pretty serious.
-
• #7779
Failure of steering cable.

Just get a Christiana.
-
• #7781
Absolutely not.

• #7782
That's one advantage of having gone for the relatively top end of the market bike. Makes most other bikes affordable with extra expenditure
-
• #7783
Why not? They just work.
-
• #7784
Really? That seems mental. As they are fixing the issue I didn't think they had to refund.

Hey Sketch, I am interested in having a bespoke removable rack built for my Bullitt that would sit on the frame in the cargo area, giving it an extra "floor" if that makes sense... is that the sort of thing you could do?
I can do a back of a napkin drawing of what I mean if that doesn't make sense.

I think it's a refund and you don't get the bike back. It sounds like they don't know how to fix the issue or maybe that it'll take too long to fix it?
My dealer says he'll have more info today or Monday

It seems odd they can't resolve an issue with the cable via replacement through authorised maintenance centres.
Looks like there was a voluntary recall earlier in the year, I wonder if it is related:
Also makes me worried that something pretty bad has happened somewhere in terms of failure.

I emailed my dealer (the helpful Dan at Fully Charged) and he said mine wasn't affected so they must know the fix. Mine is in transit apparently.
Hopefully he's right.

You have found someone helpful at fully charged and you are not affected by the recall?! How do I get some of this good karma? :)
-
• #7791
I'd double check. The comms I've seen say every bike up made up the 6th October
-
• #7792
I think mine was shipped late September. Let's see what happens.

• #7793
Oh my days, this doesn't sound fun. The cable steering was one of the things I was slightly miffed about not getting (the UA turning circle is pretty barge like), but now it's a bit more of a relief.

• #7794
He's the owner I think and he might be wrong.
He's been good so far tho.
-
• #7795
you can adjust the UA turning circle, often it comes from the factory ridiculously limited
-
• #7796
Good to know, will look into that (unless you have instructions?). Have also requested to join the UA FB group, which I only just found out exists.

Yeah he's one of the founders and is obviously having a pretty grim time with the number of customers getting escalated up to him. A big recall in the midst of general lack of supply must be a nightmare.
I've just had more delays to my bike and still unspecified delivery date. Not very happy. -

Long shot: does anyone have the tool you need to replace the cranks on an Urban Arrow that I could borrow for a day? I think it's called a Bosch lockring tool or something like that! It's this style of lockring. Happy to chuck some cash or beers your way if so.

I just spoke to someone at Fully Charged. They are working on options and their directors are in discussion with R&M about next steps. He said they will send out an email to all Packster customers later today.
Ah, thank you. I'll try and pull myself together and stop weeping into my corn flakes.
