  • ikr! such a lightweight.

  • Going to look at some second hand bullitts

Where are you finding them? I've been looking as well and all the ones I keep finding are hundreds of miles away from London.

  • Madness?

I’d say so. I imagine it would absolutely demolish batteries / wear all your drive train parts super fast etc.

I went to compare it to the Bosch cargo line motors which are plenty powerful, but it seems they have stopped using ‘Watts’ and instead measure power in torque / Nm.

For perspective you can get 200-300kg up a hill with these.

Also worth mentioning the maximum allowed wattage to be considered a legal ebike is 250w iirc.

  • Front mount/mudguard bracket type things. What's out there?

Passport do a few useful-looking stubby mounts for putting handlebar-size lights on forks etc. Here's an example which I keep meaning to put on mine so I can put a Knog or my headlight at the front of my box:

  • 30 kg plus a kid? As, er, my kids together are above that.

  • nah 30 in total, only one kid who is smol

  • Can you make my kids smol?

  • Can you make me smol?

  • The steps e6100 with 250w and 60nm with a 5 speed nexus has done everything I have needed it to do easily. The limit of 15mph hasn't bothered me either, I thought it would.

  • I can't imagine wanting to go over that with mini_com anyway, I was just being blinded by bigger numbers.

Is the example I linked above looking like a good deal? It's on a par (price wise) with other used examples I can see and is in London. I would still need to source a kid carrying contraption, or find plans to make my own. And then look at electrifying it in future with a bafang.

  • Is the example I linked above looking like a good deal?

wow just had a look the Shimano Alfine 8 speed is £3165! So yeah maybe. When I got mine it was like 2.2k! 23 months ago.

  • is buying a frameset and slowly building it an option for you? Because you have 'bin' the crankset with bafang, I had to replace brake hoses for wider taller bars too. Saddle too.

  • Ah thanks, I had seen that one, thought it was a bit overpriced for the condition and the fact it didn't have any accessories, seen one for the same price with canopy and seat (but not in London).

But it's the only one in London and who knows when one will come up again?

  • Welcome to the UK in 2021, price rises every other time you look at anything.

TBF most of the price rises are worldwide, UK is just seeing an extra little bump thanks to the B word.
By mid 2023 a lot of things in the bike industry should have stabilized, hopefully! In the mean time means used prices remain very good/residuals for ebikes and cargo's.

  • thanks to the B word

    Britons

  • Maybe, but I have a habit of buying the wrong bits when I do that and kicking myself so would rather as much of it as possible was put together by someone else. I can put things together no problem, it's knowing what to put together I have less confidence in.

  • thats fair, cargo bikes can be complicated

  • It's been on there a while which is telling of the price.

  • Bathroom quote just landed. Forget I said anything.....

  • every second you are wasting not buying a cargo bike is every second you could pass off as parenting while cycling and all parties involved loving it, you, the kid and your partner

  • Almost as if to taunt the GC thread, depending on how the shares go, come the end of November could be a completely different story. But for now, it's a tough enough argument with ms_com as it is. Making her chose between an actual shower and me dicking about on two wheels, is not going to go my way.

  • Fuck's sake. You've got a pressure washer right?

  • "Sweetheart, Damo's on the phone, he wants to talk to you about the new bathroom and how you don't need it."
