Happy G-Shock Thursday all! Here's the all-black GBX-100 that arrived from Japan on Monday. Photos really don't do the screen justice at all, it is crisp, you can get a clear read of the screen from just about any angle.

"vibe alarm" love it
Also cool looking watch, I have a couple of negative display G Shocks and they are not good, that looks more like an eInk display, very nice

Love this but why no solar!?
-
• #55083
Well, Japan famously has no light, solar watches from Japanese manufacturers are for overseas sales only, JDM products are never solar powered.
Wait, it's not wednesday...

Yeah, do want. Looks great. Grats!

For many years the only solar-powered Seiko diver's watch was a Japanese Domestic Market model, the titanium SBDN001 and its variations. The one I bought in the mid-2000s has been accurate and maintenance free ever since then.

That's a good looking watch.

This. Make that a solar and you can take my money. Think it might be the best looking G-Shock out there.

I'm considering a steel bracelet BB58, I like the Pelagos LHD but I'm certain the size would be too much for my puny wrist.
Pros/cons of the BB58? Alternatives?
-

Pros - perfect size, big power reserve, super accurate, anti-magnetic, strap monster, great bezel action.
Cons - faux rivets, I guess (although I never notice them when wearing the watch), no “on the fly adjustment”, some might say it’s a bit boring, bit too shiny when brand new.
Alternatives? I’d get a vintage Tudor sub if I could afford it. Cheaper... no idea really. SPB147 maybe, although to me there is an huge gap in quality between this and the BB58, you know... the case finish, movement feel, bracelet etc...
BB58 really is a great watch. We already have a few on the forum.

Thanks very much! It really does seem to hit a sweetspot. Next stop is to actually try one on and get a feel for it.

Do like the chrono and the commander, don't think I need any more watches right now

Alternatives?
huh maybe scrap the below, far too spendy now compared to a BB58
Obvs. getting them new is tricky.
-
• #55096
Both lovely but as you said, a little more difficult to get hold of new and also about another £1k or so above the BB58.

I think the blue is available everywhere, no problem. Good luck.

You should definitely be able to try one on at a dealer, there doesn't seem to be a supply shortage any more. I checked it out (on bracelet) at the WoS concession in Westfield Stratford a few weeks back.
