Should Scotland be an independent country?

  • I'm not sure Sturgeon is in the clear yet. The Hamilton report exonerated her in a limited sense (the remit was set by Swinney). The Committee report was fairly damning about the conduct of the SG (both civil service and the elected members).

The addendum that Hamilton attached re redactions to his report is also troubling.

The whataboutery re the Toaries is straight from the SNP playbook. Deflect, avoid, distract, redact.

  • Given you've spent months here dropping Q-style hint-hint bollocks that the whole SNP was about to be spectacularly destroyed and be sent to the frozen wastelands for all eternity, your views have got about as much credibility as, well, any Tory's.

  • Just emailed Douglas asking the same

  • The SNP as an organisation are also facing questions about the missing £600k raised to promote independence which was supposed to segregated for an upcoming ref. The latest accounts show £96k in cash. Three members of the audit committee have resigned allegedly after Murrell wouldn't give them access to the detailed accounts.

  • I'm not aware of making any such comments. To classify any criticism of the SNP and the SG as Q like seems disingenuous.

  • The whataboutery re the Toaries is straight from the SNP playbook. Deflect, avoid, distract, redact.

It's not whataboutery - if contravening the ministerial code should lead to a resignation (and it should) then Sturgeon should go, if she is found to have done so. However, so should half the current cabinet and the PM.

You can't advocate for one and not the other - or rather you can, but it reveals you to be nothing but a partisan shill who uses the concept of adherence to a moral code as a convenient fig leaf for advancing your own agenda.

  • "Whataboutism, also known as whataboutery, is a variant of the tu quoque logical fallacy that attempts to discredit an opponent's position by charging them with hypocrisy without directly refuting or disproving their argument"

    Meets the definition.

  • What argument of yours am I trying to discredit?

  • Lack of response tells its own story I think- but will an apology be forthcoming?

  • What’s Salmond up to? Is it ego driven, the right move or exactly what the Tories need to split the independence vote?

  • He is claiming it will help the Independence movement as he is only running on regional lists of which apparently only 4 SNP candidates were voted last time around. So in his mind, a far more Pro Independence parliament will be formed making it impossible for Westminster to ignore....

What he forgets is that his image is extremely rapey and he should be as far away from the independence movement and public life as he can get.

  • YES

  • What he forgets is that his image is extremely rapey and he should be as far away from the independence movement and public life as he can get.

This was what my other half said, but with more vehemence.

  • He’s not doing very well on C4 News right now- KGM won’t let him get past the rapey part.

  • he should be as far away from the independence movement and public life as he can get

Yeah its amazing that he still seems intent on public life.
Sure, he was cleared in court but its plainly obvious he's a rapey sleaze ball who thinks he can touch up women with no repercussions.

Glad to hear KGM isn't letting it slide.

  • Maybe have a wee think about that sonny boy.

  • I think rapey might be the wrong description given his acquittal. Having met him at the races, I think boaky around women would be better.

Edit to add.. My recurring image is of his fat arse hanging out of a pink stretch limo as he 'chatted' with the white stetson clad women inside.

  • Nah, rapey is correct.

  • I worked in a house years ago and the woman in the house was telling us that she worked at the Scottish Parliament at the time he was there and was told never to be alone with him as he was "grabby".

  • I have, and either you don’t understand your own argument or you are being totally dishonest. I guess the first is always a possibility for Wikipedia Warriors such as yourself, but in this case I think you know you have painted yourself into a corner and rather than admit your error you are trying to brazen it out. Looks weak.

  • What should I Google to understand how the same person votes differently in Scottish elections vs national elections? For instance why in our constituency we have voted for Libdem in the last few general elections yet in the Scottish election the Libdem candidate got only 4% of the votes

  • Some more detail oozing out..

  • Small tatties that is ol' boy.

  • When I communicate I kind of assume a certain level of intelligence.
