Having a whale of a time watching Social Distance Fest on Instagram at the minute. Live sets from a load of fun screamo bands, including my pals in Coma Regalia. It's on live now. Closest thing to being at a live DIY show at the moment!

My band Komarov have a track on this banging compilation that Middle-Man records have put out. Loads of good bands on it including Gillian Carter, Adobe Homes and Coma Regalia.
"SSV3 brings together friends old and new with 17 tracks of live or never before released songs to benefit My Sistah's House, an organization that helps with the housing and other needs of Black trans women."

YAAAS love a compilation. loads of bands i've never heard of here which is EXACTLY what i want from a mixtape, a+ cause too thanks for signal boosting.
in other news very into this right now

Yeah it's quite an eclectic mix! Especially considering Shawn who runs Middle Man is in half the bands, ha ha.
Not heard Nuvolascura before (I've clearly not been paying enough attention to what Zegema Beach have been up to) enjoyed the first track, looking forward to finding time to listen to the rest!

Like this. For some reason this got me thinking about Iconoclast (NJ) - https://youtu.be/eeXABxdfL2o
Not sure why but happy to be reminded of them (some 23 years or so later..)

There's some really really horrible stuff coming out about Alex Fitzpatrick who runs Holy Roar. It seems like more and more stuff is coming out in quick succession so this article is probably already out of date but gives an idea of how disgusting and widespread his abuse has been. It seems like a lot of bands, including my pals in Rolo Tomassi and all of his staff are leaving the label.
Sorry to post something so upsetting in here but I thought people should be made aware of who they're supporting if they support Holy Roar.

yeah this really sucks, thinking about the amount of money ive given HR over the years, the number if bands that are going to be fucked by this, its all a shit show.
Svalbard and Palm Readers albums both come out in the next month or so, and i just don’t see how to support two bands i love while making it clear i want to give no more money to HR.
Which reminds me I need to cancel my label subscriptin...

I think Svalbard have left the label, I'm not sure about Palm Reader but I can't see how any bands could continue to support the label. He's put out a statement categorically denying the allegations, claiming that he's seeking legal advice on how to "clear his name" (I think both of his parents work in the legal field so I can fully believe it) whilst resigning from the company.
I'm in the same boat, I've given HR a lot of my money over the years, they've put out some great records.
I don't know Palm Reader personally but Svalbard are all good people and I'm sure they'll find a way to do the right thing. -

Fuck him, from what i've heard it sounds like he's had privilege all the way up so hopefully the bands land somewhere they can continue to kill it.
-
• #641
Yeah I think he's from a fairly well off background. He also runs Ghost Whale in Brixton and Putney if you're in to craft beer and want to avoid those too.

yeah, horrible to hear. i was HR's first ever intern and know both Alex and his ex (who i assume has made one of the statements). i never had an inkling of this, but weird as it sounds, because it is horrible, i'm glad it's coming out. ten years ago this likely wouldn't have been spoken about. i hope the people he's affected get some measure of closure from this and they empower others to feel supported to speak up... very slowly, the wheels of change in society move and it will push people to never, ever act this way in the beginning

I know what you mean. As uncomfortable as it is that so many people are being outed for their appalling behaviour of late, it seems to be a sign that people are feeling more empowered to speak out against their abusers. You just have to hope that the increase in people demanding that abusers will be held accountable for their actions will stop arrogant, entitled pieces of shit like Alex thinking they can get away with doing whatever they want, regardless of the impact that has on other people.

A stupid bike club I'm in has put together a compilation made up of members' bands. All the money raised will go towards buying bikes for refugees in the UK.
Bandcamp are waiving their fees today so 100% of the proceeds go to a good cause! We're also selling t-shirts and patches. There's loads of good bands on there, including Dawn Ray'd, Endless Swarm, Nothing Clean Komarov (shameless self promotion) and Gay Panic Defence, plus loads more.

Do it! Blast Beat Bicycle Club on Facebook/Instagram/Strava. It's an inclusive group with members all over the place, the idea is to encourage everyone to ride at least 13 miles on the 12th of every month, hoping to do some more fundraising for refugees soon!
Looks good!
