  • Yeah it's great! I'm new to mountain bikes but it's been fun getting off the road onto some trails, and I went out in the snow the other week which was awesome. The frameset was a great deal when I got it at £179 but I think it's at some shocking price now.

Not used it as much as I would like with lockdown sadly - impromptu adventures have been difficult. Hoping for more this year though. King Alfred's way and the vosges route from bikepacking.com are on the list.

I've got new brakes on there (slx I think) to replace the parts bin clarks, new saddle, and bigger tyres (29*2.4) that I haven't got round to setting up yet.

  • Oh saddle roll. There are much better sewers than me on the forum! @mjef rolls look lovely. Not sure I love the little saddle bag I did for my standert. Might redo it.

  • More pics of the standert please. Can't stop looking at it

  • Thanks, I really fancy getting a Bootzipper. Hoping one will come up secondhand.

  • Have you used a frame bag on the Standert at all so far?

I loaned a friend mine for a ride, he attached a small triangle bag and it’s left the paintwork in a right state. The lacquer seems to scratch if you stare at it hard enough, wondering if it’s just mine?

  • I haven't had a frame bag on here but that's annoying! You said yours has chipped a bit from gravel riding too right? I have had mudguards on and only ridden on the road so far. Got some 650b rims to build up though so I guess I should prepare myself for it to not look brand new forever.

  • I'll do a photo dump when I have taken some better ones in the sun. Still loving it. It's exactly what I wanted - proper fast road bike with room for big tyres and guards.

  • Actually @PhilDAS here are a few I have on my phone.

  • Exactly what I'm after too although for my next one I'll be happy with 28c tyres

  • Yeah, has a few scratches and a chip or two from winter ‘gravel’ riding which was always to be expected but surprised that a Velcro strap took the lacquer off

Still loving the bike though, quick enough for road rides and with enough clearance for off road.

  • Ooft, every time I see this I get a pang of regret as to not ordering one when they last came up. Pretty much exactly what I'm after in my next bike, & your build is a corker.

  • Yeah sounds about right for #ukgravel. Will bear that in mind if I ever put a frame bag on and tape it up. Mine does have the beginnings of some heel and cable rub so I'll stick some tape on to stop those getting worse. But yeah as you say, great bike. Will get the 650b wheels set up soon!

  • Cheers! They'll be back I guess. Although I'm glad I got in before brexit (or rather end of the transition period).

Hopefully mudguards can come off soon. Going to get some turbo cottons for spring and summer too. These planet x tyres are fine and seem tough but grip isn't great, and I assume they're not fast.

  • See if this breaks the internet....! Purists may wish to scroll past my parts bin special Marin team Titanium from 1996..

  • Sorry, wrong thread.... it’s been a while, and I’m a knob.

  • If someone wants to pop it in the retro mountain bikes thread, that would be lovely☺️

  • Ha no worries. Like the bike though. Lotta seat post! I have short legs and always think my bikes look a bit off because of it.

  • With the dirt drops, it lends itself to yoga professionals mostly...!

  • Guards off, turbo cottons on for spring.

  • Hot!

  • Did I spot the Standert at Herne Hill station last weekend? The photos jogged a memory of trying to peek at a nice bike whilst trying to cajole the dog out of the station!

  • ooh errr

  • Yeah that was probably me loading up on coffee and baked goods before heading out for a ride! Say hi next time!

  • It only just clicked that it was a forum bike! Will say hello if I spot you/the bike again.
