  • Given her bike is 9spd and my turbo bike is 10spd a direct drive trainer was not going to work for both of us.

Use it in erg mode with a 9s cassette and you’ll be fine. I haven’t changed gear in 6 months on my turbo

  • I've used a Tacx turbo tyre for +6000km with a Tacx Vortex and I've never had a problem.

  • I am also on a tacx turbo tyre. I think it must be about as old as time now. It's split to fuck and as I'm moving to a new bike set up for turbo Im wondering if I can "upgrade my experience".

Also. Tubeless on turbo. Yes. No.

(Sorry read this back, sounds snarky. I'm not. I've just finished ironing. And my last beer. I want another and there isnt one)

  • Or reuse the old tyres I've got knocking around and how long they'll last.

  • Reuse, if you can get free cheap tires these last well.

  • Decathlon turbo tyre is a lot more supple and grippy than Conti by comparison and 25c

  • Rep.

This is the most lockdown post of the forum yet.

  • I've just finished ironing

why are you doing this? who do you want to look presentable to?

  • I'm so disappointed in you.

  • Cannot remember the last time I ironed clothes, can't tell on video calls if you wear black tops. 😂

  • Sorry folks, this is likely being asked alot but I can't find anything using the search ...

For apartment living, what are the best recommendations to avoid angry neighbours? I've read the Wahoo Kickr Core and Tacks FLUX S Smart, (budget wheel-off), are both quiet. Any opinions?

  • Run your washing machine at the same time, they won’t be able to tell.

Other than that, those turbos are a good choice with a decent thickness mat.

  • any direct drive turbo will be quiter than wheel-on

  • Cool, thanks. Now I just need to find somewhere that stocks them (in EU)

  • I never had issues like this on my wheel-on trainers. Assume you're trying different brands of tubes? What size tyres are you using?

  • It’s a turbo tyre am not at home right now but I’d guess 23 or 25mm - bright orange thing and nutrack tubes just because I have some in the parts bin.

I am not sure my awesome lack of power is the problem.

  • You never heard a lemond revolution then....

  • Yeah, seems quite odd. I did briefly use a turbo-specific tyre but couldn't be arsed with the faff of swapping it on and off. I also tended to use pretty durable tyres so just left them on for turbo. I guess you could try it with a different tyre and see if it goes any better. Splits near the valve or not?

  • I think they are just shit inner tubes. Given the bike is just left on the turbo am happy to use the turbo tyre.

Problem is a puncture mid turbo session means I stop and don’t continue. The garage is pretty much the same temp as outside and i am only dressed in bibs and a base layer so get cold pretty quickly.

  • Tacx Neo is also very quiet - I think the side to side movement helps reduce noise further as legs aren't absorbing as much movement. Older Wahoo Kickrs aren't that quiet - I think you need 3rd Gen onwards.
Do you get on with downstairs neighbours? Discussing acceptable times to do it is probably useful - I think even the quietest trainers will generate some noise through the ceiling.

  • But no kickr core turbos available so I’ll not make any immediate expensive purchases.

  • I have a feeling (anecdotal tale told to me) that turbo tyres are not fans of sitting in the cold, getting warm, getting cold again.

  • use bikesnipe for stock alerts on the wahoos. they've been coming in and out of stock pretty regularly recently

sports direct were doing a good deal on those saris H3s recently. might be worth a look on HUKD to see if it has expired

  • Got a Wahoo Kickr the other week and my God is it an improvement on the Tacx Vortex I had a few years back. Basically silent.

Ironically I only used it for the first time yesterday as I put my back out unboxing it the other week.

Trying out sufferfest to see if it keeps my attention better than zwift.
