Sufferfest is great

It has some trade-offs relative to a Neo or Kickr, but I use a 4iiii Fliiiight and am very happy with it. It's a wheel-on trainer, but the wheel is resisted by magnets, so it doesn't make physical contact with anything.

I find Sufferfest's fractured narrative less than immersive

you can disable that,I found that very naff and a bit macho/patriarchal
these days I just churn trainerroad and old CX races thanks to my sponsor @leggy_blonde

Did not know about bikesnipe
The kickr core looks like it’ll do all I need and would be a step up from my vortex smart but I haven’t earned money since august last year.

Any recommendations for a cheap laptop/tablet/fan stand? Please don't say ironing board or the likes (I did UTFS) - I've been using a laundry drying rack for ages but it's not ideal with my current setup.

I made one from ply and then went back to the ironing board because it’s literally perfect for the job.
-
• #3512
not like the ironing board is getting any other use these days (unless you're user @Chalfie)

I use my daughter’s music stand. Works a treat and can be had for a tenner.

She has business smarts.

It’s alright, I used her pocket money to pay for it.

Has anyone on the forum got a Saris H3? I was all set to get an Elite Direto but the Saris is similar money and seems to get better reviews.

Yeah its been great, no issues whatsoever, i store it in a cold shed too. I had a kickr v1 prior, this feels a little more ‘road like’ with its heavier freewheel.

Thanks. That’s what I wanted to hear.

I've also recently moved from a Kickr v1 to the H3 and super happy with it. Super smooth for Erg workouts and flywheel feels great in Zwift. Super quiet if your drive train is clean

My only criticism is you cant use anything bigger than a 38t on an MTB. with it as the mech will hit the support legs

Opinions on the first gen Tacx Flux smart? Looking to upgrade (from a Vortex smart) and one came up locally fairly cheap.

Which virtual hills are you riding up ;-)

I am not, I am just banging out ERG but in theory would be fun to do some zwift
-
• #3525
Maybe not fun, but it gives a nice bit of indoor variety over the soul crushing experience that is ERG mode
I've found sufferfest quite good - had been doing random rides on RGT & Tacx without much aim but chucked myself into a training plan & have managed to stick to it thus far, I think I like the structure element rather than grinding up a big fake hill for an hour.
The half monty is a good if slightly unpleasant place to start then set your stats & go from there - I haven't done the full frontal yet, gonna try and get a couple more weeks done then see if i'm improving any.
