• me too - 35mm slick, squirmy ride and 3-4 punctures a week commuting (vs once every 6 months on g one speeds)

  • All image rights actually @seager but definitely a great use for the tyre

  • Will my bike spontaneously combust if I top up my tyres with dried caffelatex in them with fresh Stans?

I use Caffelatex normally but spending Xmas in the provinces means the only sealant LBS has is Stans. (Also very good reason to use Stans due to wide availability).

Or must I bite the bullet and spend 30 mins cleaning that shit out?

  • You'll be fine, especially as the caffelatex has dried

  • it's watery glue not nitroglycerin. What's the worst that could happen?

  • They don't mix well and wont seal a puncture

  • Sounds like me and my experience with tubeless in general.

  • My new Giant Gavia tyres on 411 rims will only take about 40psi and then leaks from around the valve(caffelatex included). Ive tried the O ring on the inside and outside of the rim. Any advice would be great and just for future reference which is the correct position for the O ring. thanks

  • It's the rim tape. It's been torn or has come loose somewhere around the valve.

It's almost always the rim tape

  • Any tips on cleaning up this mess? Do I even need to? The shoulders are clean, just the channel covered in gorilla tape residue which nothing seems to shift. The tape mostly sticks to the shoulders anyway right?

  • Builders putty rubber . Or a bottle of ipa

  • Isopropyl works quite well, although I've found that acetone works better

  • An internet search says mayonnaise or peanut butter to get 3m adhesive off 😳

  • What do you use to get the peanut butter and mayonnaise off?

    @snottyotter ?

  • Specifically on gorilla tape residue? I'm having no luck with either.

@pacef8 I read that, I don't think I can bring myself to waste peanut butter like that.

  • Wd40 to soften it then a plastic tyre lever and soft cloth to pick up the bits.

  • Specifically on gorilla tape residue?

    Yeah

I've not really had any cause to remove the tape, as it's difficult to damage, but I've always removed it on wheels that I've sold on

  • Also, crunchy or smooth?

    Mmmmm, crunchy mayonnaise

  • 3M, and others, do a citrus based label remover that is fantastic for getting sticky tape or label residue off surfaces.

  • It seems to soften it (brake cleaner and IPA), but still requires a fuck ton of scraping which is not easy in the concave channel. Which brings me back to my original question, will it make any difference if I just tape over it?

  • will it make any difference if I just tape over it?

If you're adding more gorilla tape, no. If you're using Stans/DT/Tesa etc, you'd be best off with a clean surface

  • citrus

The active ingredient is d-limonene, which you can buy from chemical suppliers without the branding, dilution and mark-up

  • Specifically on gorilla tape residue?

    Petrol. Works wonders.

  • I get someone to lick it off me.

  • Tesa yeah, fuck using gorilla tape ever again. @Brommers I'd heard that, might have to pick some up tomorrow.
