Had my virtual 5km race with my brothers yesterday. Very windy and my usual route round Tooting Common was very muddy so had to improvise. Some hard headwind sections. Though since my brother was doing it in Norwich I guess I shouldn't complain about wind. Set out too fast into the headwind with a 3.47 first km and it fell apart from there really.
I got a rather fitting PB of 20.20, and my brother smashed it and got 19.40.
Still v happy as I'd not had the most disciplined lead up to the "race". Something to aim for in 2021

Can anyone recommend an alternative to Asics GT 2000?

Little off road run today. No idea how far but it was great.
Trainers had zero grip so was just sliding about for an hour 👍🏼

Tooting Bec Common is where I usually run round :-) Good 5k loop all the way round (apart from the road running through it!).
Yeah, it's getting pretty muddy. Over taking walkers is getting properly slippery.
Good work on the PB. -

Thanks for the suggestion .. I’m going to give it a go before bed tonight.

No problem. I normally do that one straight after a run and then try and get a few of these 15 min mobility/strengthening ones done during the week

I went for these in the end. I couldn’t find any more miles in my size in any decent colours.
They look alright hopefully fit well. They’ll be covered in mud soon anyway

I know this gets asked fairly often and apologies for repeating it, but does anyone have a recommendation for an app or programme to get into running?
Also, I'm flat footed and have knee hyper extension. Has anyone else had any experience with these and running, and any advice on shoes or exercises to mitigate any pain/discomfort?

If you have specific requirements I’d be tempted to get a gait assessment to get your feet right. The staff at these places are normally pretty knowledgable or could refer you elsewhere if need be.
My advice - take it steady, go slow and try and enjoy it.

app
Couch to 5k app gets a lot of use. Not done it myself but downloads rocketed this year with lockdown.

Couch to 5k
+1. My partner started with that and I did the bulk of it with her, recommended

Has anyone read the lost art of running?
I gave, and found it interesting, but thought that it sounded a little too good to be true.
What are other people’s opinions?

Brilliant. Thanks for this. He’s my type of chilled out but informed guy! Already done this one this morning (or tried to - my right Achilles was having none of it).

Go to a real podiatrist who focuses on running and pay ÂŁ300 for some proper shoe inserts.
Gait analysis on a treadmill in a shop is generally about as useful as astrology. “Look I drew a green line on the screen” this means you need some new ASICS Kayano

Got it for Xmas but haven't read it as yet. I'm intested in the importance of fascia for energy return as I've read about that before for other sports (martial arts mainly) and thought it would be interesting in relations to running. Also looking for tips to speed my slow self up a bit :)

It’s definitely worth a read. Pretty quick to get through too
They've changed over the weeks but included variations of split squats, hip thrusts, calf raises, glute bridges with a resistance band and side planks. Lots of single leg of each so your weak leg can't hide. I also was supposed to start a gym plan using bigger weights - leg press, barbell - but only managed one visit before we went into Tier 4.
