That's another "cor!" from me: St B Trippel was my Friday tipple, when pubs were open.

Yes, absolute Christmas banger that!

Why have I never had proper German lager before? This stuff is perfect for swilling in front of mindless telly.

Try their Rauschbier also - it's, erm, interesting...

It’s the best! I think I may as well set up a standing order to Bavaria Brau in the new year.
The site is down for Christmas it seems, but their boxes are a great combo, good price and come fast.

Yeah, I always prefer my beer to taste like past date smoked sausage!

Look out for this stuff, god tier lager.

Hahaha! And the 8% oak-smoked is even more special.

So grim, I bought every German beer from Kris Wines for an oktoberfest party I had about 6 or 7 years ago (yes I drink non münchen beer at my Oktoberfest parties before the German beer police come after me 😂) and the smoked stuff was definitely educational. Camden brewery had one on tap à couple of years ago and they successfully managed to make it just as rank as the Germans.

Just before I switch to wine, 8% shouldn't be this easy to drink.

Is any common German beer style not lagered? Weissbier maybe?

I’ve only tried proper smoked beer once - it was definitely one of those your glad you’ve tried but aren’t necessarily in a hurry to try again. Am I right in thinking that’s more or less how beer would have tasted hundreds of years ago when smoking was the only way to dry stuff out in wet climates?

A world away from the stouts etc that get posted here, but this was a truly exceptional beer I had last night. Tommie Sjef is a bit of a cult name in the Netherlands for his wild ales. He's almost more like a natural winemaker than a brewer. This one was a 'blend of several barrels of beer with different ages (1 up to 2 years old), which were macerated with different types of grapes — three in total: Olasz Rizling (white), Muscat (white), and a little bit of Kékfrankos.'. It was somewhere between a sour beer and a dry rosé. Perfect to have alongside some other wine (only comes in 750ml bottles too). Pretty hard to find but not impossible (he has a weird thing about not letting anyone mail his beers, so it's restricted to physical stores).

To a degree - I've had beers made with wood-fired malts before (e.g. Goose Island's Obidiah Poundage), and the woodsmoke is pretty subtle; I think smoked malts might be partially cold-smoked.

I'm afraid I'm completely clueless about brewing, sorry. I just know what things are called.
I was the guy passed out on the sofa with the workmates still on the Teams chat last night.
It seems 4 cans of DIPA after 3/4 bottle of bourbon is quite enough for mr hippy.
Oddly enough didn't feel that rough this morning. Maybe my brain is hungover so much nowadays it's finally given up complaining.
