  • been knocking this back on cask in one of my locals a bit before this lockdown. lovely stuff but thankfully cask doesn't come in at 6.5%

  • Heh.

You are the exception that proves the rule.

  • Thanks!

I've seen you mention you're in my part of the world, these days: I'll keep my eyes peeled for a small Fiat, driven by an ageing hipster.

Grain run my local, so can heartily recommend the stout. And if you like something lighter too, 316 is very quaffable.

316 might be available in polypins, but bottles only for Blackwood. They're delivering mine to the Spread Eagle, who are then dropping it off at mine.

  • Hooray the Belgium in a Box website is down for maintenance and I’m totally relaxed and chill about it

  • Christmas day sorted.

  • Found a Twitter conversation where someone found they had removed UK as a shipping destination on Dec 14th and in an email convo said they would no longer be shipping to UK. Other Belgian webshops are still getting stuff out in a couple of days so this 5 weeks thing is looking shady as.

  • Oh fucking hell, I'm so sorry.. what a shitshow.

  • It's only like 100 euro worth or something, lets see what Beeronweb are saying.

  • I know it tends to be a bit divisive but I’m a big fan of Duchesse de Bourgogne (or ‘fizzy salad dressing’ as my wife described it last time I forced her to try it). Don’t know many other adjacent beers though. Anyone got any recommends?

  • Couple of tins from the office

  • What is it about it you like - the sour funk? Rodenbach Grand Cru maybe? Otherwise there's a world of Lambiek/Geuze-style beers?

  • I’m a big fan of sour beers in general, but I feel like duchesse falls within ‘challenging’.
I’m after a similar level of ‘I’m not sure if this is amazing or fucking vile’ :-D

  • Het Verzet Oud Bruin Oak leaf is similar not sure if anyone has any in stock over here at the mo. Anything by Alvinne too.

UK wise, 6 degrees north's flemish black is worth a try

  • Why does Duvel do this?

  • The dishwasher needs cleaning tablets?

  • Cheers for these - will investigate! Need to try and get a beer order in before Christmas 😬

  • More Christmas day fodder

  • Because it's hyper fizzy. And you need to be super careful. I've never managed a decent pour.

  • Hic.

  • Lots of Belgian beers have pillowy heads like that (as do many German styles). IIRC it's to do with the malts they use and the multi-step mashing; I guess it must promote certain proteins that create the head? The beers are also fairly heavily carbonated, which helps head formation.

  • Can anyone suggest a subscription box? We've been enjoying Anspach & Hobday, but APC as their courier have been nothing short of shambolic and either delivering at 11pm at night or 48 hours later, shame they're letting them down...
