I wish I could remember the name of the one I had. It was in the craft ale bar/shop in Lyme Regis some years ago. It was very smoked! Was pretty hard going in fact as it was such a pungent flavour.

Delish. Only picked one up, definitely going back for more

Tried 3/4 of the Tiny Rebel Stay Puft Christmas editions.
Mint Choc tasted very much like mint Choc chip ice cream, not a bad thing.
Honey Glazed Ham was weird, smelled and tasted ham-y. Repeated on me for hours. Not great, but worth a try if only to say you have.
Eggnog white porter, not very eggnog-y or porter-y, is alright.Have the Irish cream variety still to try.

Am I right in thinking that’s more or less how beer would have tasted hundreds of years ago when smoking was the only way to dry stuff out in wet climates?
I couldn't tell you the answer but I've had plenty of other smoked beers (especially porters) which I really like but there's a certain meaty/cheese quality to the smoked German beers which I can't get on with.

God I miss the pub, couple of Kwaks followed by a Rauschbier over a few hands of shithead and packet of scampy fries is one of my favourite ways to pass some time

God I miss the pub
Amen to that. Not been since March. No opportunity between lockdowns.
In other news, Brew York’s Barack Oklava for some Monday night tipple is nice...

Rauschbier
Very good. "Rausch" in German is the noun for intoxication from drinking, among other things. (It can also mean 'ecstasy' quite generally.) "Rauch", on the other hand, is 'smoke'. :)

Rauschbier
Think I made that error too. Oops.

Gifted these. High hopes for the Spiced Porter, and from memory Saltaire stuff is good.

I want to try this just for the bottle

As a Christmas tradition, I crack open a bottle of De Struise Black Albert to get the morning started. This year I bought a bottle of Black Damnation, the Black Nuts one which was matured in Ardbeg barrels and now I’ll be forced not to share it with anyone. I’m going to be asleep before lunch

You only read the name as far as 'FUN', right?

We had a virtually hosted Stay Puft night earlier this week...favourites were the Mint Choc which was a lovely drop followed by the Irish Cream - that Honey Glazed Ham one just doesn't work at all, no way!
In order: Mint Choc, Irish Cream, Original, Eggnog, Coffee and then Ham.

Thanks. I’ll order some of these once I’ve got through the Xmas beers and then a much needed dry January.

I had a smoked beer that had that cheese/ham taste in Leeds many years ago (North Bar I think). I drank two thirds of it, left the rest. Left the bar and felt I'll for about half an hour before throwing it all up. Worst beer choice ever!

I love smoked cheese and meat but never thought they could be delivered better in the form of a cold beer!

In a year when I’ve begun to think nothing of spending £6 on a can of IPA (admittedly a 440ml), I was very pleased to find these on 2 x 4 pack for £9 in Tesco.
It’s a lovely easy drinker for the first tipple mid-afternoon. Goes down so nicely I tend not to bother decanting it into a glass.

Just did a monster Crimbo shop at Aldi and they're out of coffee stout. Gah! Got some toffee ale, American IPA and amber ale at similarly bargainous prices and also picked up this Belgian number which I've not tried before. Must be worth a go @ £2.99 for 750ml.

I've eyed that up a couple of times - let us know what it's like.

Will do! I'm hoping for something Leffe-ish but with less of a sickly vanilla aftertaste.
One day I will get my mitts on some Tommie Sjef
