The smart systems are not all that more expensive (if at all) than traditional ones and are easier to install.

I was wondering about this. I think we'd have a heated towel rail on the wall immediately on the left when you come in, and then probably a single rail or hook next to the shower so you don't have to pad across the room.

The only thing I've heard (from one of the builders who quoted) is that you shouldn't have a bath under a wooden window.
I don't know if that's because of the steam from it or the splashes, but is that sensible or is that unnecessary caution?
Thanks to everyone who's replied.

Yeah, as I said, prob gone too far, but we were a bit worried, when we had our ground floor flat in Viccy park village we had a few dodgy things go on that we got away with.
Simplisafe sounds awesome but prob overkill for someone who doesn't have a castle full of mink coats.

There's definite levels of smart alarm. The one I got (Yale) was about £200, so not much different to a non-smart one, with no subscription.
Main selling point was it's all wireless. Also nice to be able to get a notification that you've left a door/window open when you go out and also the ability to remotely set and reset it.
We didn't bother with one in a flat but in a house, with a couple of floors, it seems a bit more useful.

For me it’s about having some control of the situation. I had two cameras when we had an attempted break in, which was only thwarted by the camera and me setting off the alarm manually. I now have 8, which is overkill, admittedly. Cameras don’t seem to be a deterrent in themselves: at least, our burglar looked right at the one that was filming his exploits. If he had managed to get in he would have probably looked for cash and ipads for 5 mins then hopped it, but It would have been upsetting to know he’d got in.

The wife specc’ed wooden cabinets and a mirror surround in the bathroom, ten years or so later and the veneer is shagged on nearly all of it.

Yes, I personally would place the heated towel rail next to whichever you use most out of bath and shower, or go full 40k bathroom and have a heated towel rail (and towels) next to both...

Not having the heated towel rail positioned so that you can grab your towel from it whilst in the shower cubical is a massive layout fail IMO.

Howard: fuck you, just send a bill to the occupant
PEC: No Howard, we must know your blood type
Howard: Fuck you
PEC: But Howard, pls, what could go wrong
Howard: Can't I just pay with a credit card?
PEC: Verboten
Howard, in moment of weakness: Fine my blood type is and my DOB is and...Later
PEC: we've had a data breach and may have shared your data with crims

The bathroom at my parents place is a double fail on this - towl rad right next to the loo and shower cubicle opens on side opposite towl rad. Probably because having it open where you get access to the rad would mean the shower cubicle opening on to the loo.

We literally designed our bathrooms so that towel rail is next to the shower door in each room, I am that forgetful about it otherwise.

So our contractor just casually tried to increase our decorating bill by 20% purely because we had dado rail installed in two rooms and the hallway.
Site manager didn't mention it when we discussed the installation of the dado rail, only once it was up.I questioned it but they are sticking to their guns and said they were happy for us to get other quotes for the work if we didn't want to pay it.
