Is there such a thing as small tube amp for home use with headphones - I’m only going to be able to practice with phones for the forseable. I guess a THR would fit the bill but wonder if there’s something a bit more ‘real’ - so to speak -don’t need bells and whistles - just clean /crunch / reverb.

The THR are all fully digital modelling aren’t they?
You do get some real tube combos and heads with a headphone out now, eg the Blackstar Studio 10 / Anniversary series combos (yes, I mentioned them again). It models the cab after the power stage, but it’s fundamentally a “real” tube signal. It’s never going to be as “right” as using something like the Waza tube amp expander or a UA OX after the amp, but it’s probably better than stuff that models the valve behaviour.
The Strymon Iridium is supposed to be really impressive but again, digital, and I bought my Studio 10 for about the same price.
The Blackstar HT-1R is their little 1W home valve combo, it has the same headphone out with IR functionality, switchable overdrive channel and reverb built in. I’ve not tried one but maybe worth a look? HT-1RH is the head only version:

Ta - yeah - poorly worded soz- the THR is digi and would do all / more than I need and want but I like the idea of sommat bit simpler / legit tone wise - but with similar form factor. That Blackstar hits the nail on the head I reckon - cheers !

I'm in a similar situation (flat with thin walls) and went for the Boss Waza Air as an intermediate solution. Some of the features are a bit rubbish, but for headphone playing it's great if you hone your settings in.

All good, glad I got the gist. 😂
They also do a 5W version, the HT-5R / HT-5RH, you get more tone controls on that, if you think you’d need it.

Yeah, I have the Waza Air, it’s very clever, but I think I need to do a bit more fiddling with the settings to get it sounding how I’d like it.

I'm still trying to figure it all out. Alas, the instructions are rubbish. I can amend the tone library, but there's no way I can get it to do what I'd like which should be pretty simple. But isn't.
Still, it's a new product, and I guess it's to be expected. I imagine in a year or two there'll be a lot of competitors offering similar things.

Traded my Partscaster for this 2004 Jazzmaster Crafted in Japan with Staytrem bridge and Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups.
Gold anodised pickguard is a bad fit and must go. Pots are a bit loose and wobbly so a rewire would be of benefit. Trem arm is really loose (too loose) and needs something done to it. Tuner upgrade and new bone nut in the to do list also.
It sounds and feels sublime though!

Oof, that’s a beauty.

I can't believe I've never owned one before! The chap I swapped with had an old Watkins Custom 15 I plugged into for a tester and it sounded superb! Tone rolled off a little bit and power chords over open strings were pure shoegaze goodness!

Lovely, lovely, I really want one!
The staytrem collet and trem arm are a really good, cheap upgrade...

That's the one I was thinking, it's not bad value too!
I'm leaning towards a 3-ply white pickguard at the moment...
Would white button tuners like I put on the Duo-Sonic be madness?

I think they'd look ace... I wasn't sure they'd work on my Jag but I think they're lovely, give it that toy guitar vibe...

They've got a really cool purposeful look, those Player series JMs. The only thing I'm not so keen on is the colour of the pau ferro fingerboard.

Gig bags / cases. What does everyone prefer? Any brand recommendations?
My Japanese "Telemaster" came with a pretty crap gig bag that offers very little protection, so I want to upgrade it but I've checked out the Fender vintage-style hard cases and they seem really poorly made these days. Maybe I've been spoiled in the past, the one I have my '90s Tele in is great but I don't know if that was the original.

Man that it a beaut. Congrats @Nahguavkire
I like the gold btw.

Cases.. dunno. I have various hard cases for everything cloggging up cupboards and corners. Used to cycle to rehearsal and gigs with my DR28 acoustic in a gigbag on my back. Ah happy days. Cycling back from New Cross to Forest Hill, full of wine and singing to myself and stopping for dirty hot wings and a doobie on the way.

I play bass so the weight issue crops up more but for me hard cases are great if you're arriving at every gig in the car/van but if you've got to walk or get public transport with your guitar the premium soft cases are way more useful!
I've got a Mono M80 bass case and it's great, the build quality is really high and the protection is substantial.
I've also got a Thomann faux-leather thing which isn't terrible considering how cheap it is. -

The various Mono bags do seem to get good reviews from people who've used them. Thanks.
what you get?
