Sounds legit.
(forgive the noob question, thru axles are 100% new territory)

That might cause width issues.
I’ve measured and the stand won’t take a 142mm hub unfortunately.

142?

Question about factory wheels v handbuilt wheels.
I have a pair of Lightbicycle WR38 rims laced to DT Swiss 240 hubs 24/24 with CX Rays and want to use them for gravel. They have a very similar rim profile and identical spoke count to the Bontrager Aeolus Pro 3v wheels which are gravel focussed and have no rider weight limit. Given the almost identical specs am I safe to assume my wheels should be similarly tough and able to handle the rough stuff. FWIW I hover between 76-80kg.

I am about 100 posts into working through this thread, so I'll save my wheelbuilding questions until I've finished the background reading.
Meanwhile, I need to purchase a few replacement spokes for the drive-side of my existing touring rear wheel (Campagnolo Nuovo Tipo small flange hub, Wolber Super Champion Modele 58 [27"] rim, with 36 spokes in a 3x spoke pattern). I would appreciate suggestions for a mail-order shop which can supply the following spokes cost-effectively, including shipping costs within/to the UK:
- Plain gauge 14g (2mm), length 298mm, with 12mm nipple.
The original spokes are a dull grey finish shown in the photo below so they may be galvanised. I would like some strong replacements, though it would be ideal if they could also match the finish.

You might struggle to find galvanised spokes. They still exist, but the superiority of stainless and the minimal price differential means that only the most penny pinching OEMs actually buy them. You can easily find plain gauge DT, Sapim or ACI stainless spokes from one of the favoured shops listed in this thread.

https://www.cyclebasket.com/m9b0s454p979/ACI_Alpina_Stainless_Steel_DB_Spokes_Silver_Singles_25p each for those ^ inc 12mm nipple. £6.50 postage, so total for 72 spokes is under £25.
They're closed on Wednesdays.
If you've started breaking spokes without some kind of collision/impact, the remaining spokes are suspect.

@Emyr, I couldn't find 14g plain gauge spokes on the Cyclebasket web site.
@gbj_tester, thanks I'll probably go for stainless steel in that case.
My plan was to fix up and true the wheel using a couple of spokes like the existing ones, and then ride it while I learn about how to do a complete rebuild. I have a Park Tool TM-1 spoke tension meter so I can at least look for anything pathological in the spoke tensions.

They don’t do plain gauge at cyclebasket
-
• #10065
Because plain gauge isn't really stronger.

Yeah, only useful ime when buying spokes for little wheels! And when I’m being a cheapskate and can get them cheaper

Redo the whole thing with decent spokes instead.

That is my longer term plan, once I get some more tools and practice with the present wheel. For now, I placed an order for a few Sapim Leader spokes and nipples from SpokesFromRyan. I'll see whether the present rim will true up with acceptable relative spoke tensions and then decide how to proceed, i.e., whether I can keep the rim and just change the entire set of spokes to something better.

50p on breaking more spokes or nipples than than you've bought if trying to get the wheel up to a highish tension.

Hi, I Have a pair of DA 7600 large flange hubs (36 hole) and H plus Sons TB14 rims and trying to work out the spoke length I need. I have searched and tried many calculators but there seems to be an issue with the spec each time. Does anyone know the correct length spoke for these wheels as I am struggling. All I am certain is the ERD for the rims is 610mm.
Thank you

i believe the rim brake aero alloy wheels Hunt do are kinlin rims, are these also white-labelled rims from another manufacturer?

if not, is there a go to aero alloy disc rim?

Which will work out best here
Shimano Dynamo Hub DH-3N70
Mavic A119 rim 36h3 cross
https://kstoerz.com/freespoke/?link=1&rim=245&hub=173&n=36&xL=3&xR=34 cross
https://kstoerz.com/freespoke/?link=1&rim=245&hub=173&n=36&xL=4&xR=4It looks like 12mm nipples are about right for that rim. So I guess I’m looking for confirmation on 3x or 4x and spoke length?
-
• #10073
I would go for 3x. With 4x the spokes almost overlap the spoke heads
-
• #10074
Thanks that makes sense.
The information for both hub and rim in the above links are off slightly.
Putting the measurements from the hub, which I have, into mavic’s spoke length calculator I’m getting 285.43. Given the options of 284mm and 286mm am I best to round up or down? -
• #10075
Down. Slightly too short is fine. Slightly too long is v bad.
Do you have a pic? I've ordered adapters in the past that allowed a wider range of wheels in my Hozan.
