  • Might try channeling my post natal depression this weekend.

  • They both sound like they're mining some deep pain here.

I think the line about "you can't fake this" nailed it for me. I was just dipping my toe in when I look back.

  • So much love for Adam Kenway, I'll definitely listen to that later thanks for the link!

Watching him win up Bank Road in 2016 was my first experience of a hill climb, and what a day it was; there I am peeking out from that man's sleeve on the left!

  • Definitely worth a couple of extra furious watts!

  • Was a good listen.

Good luck to anyone riding today sounds awful out there at the moment.

  • 30psi and swimming goggles?

  • Yeah rained all night here

  • It was a little soggy! Managed to spin the back wheel a lot which was a little off putting, based on a Marshal chat I got a 5.10 which I'm pretty pleased with.

PRs on the first part of the climb and the flat bit but down 10 seconds on my best on the last bit of the climb which is a shame as it felt like I finished strong!

Hope you made the start alright in the end @dbr

  • Well done. Mott Street has a limit of 40 tomorrow. Might have raced my last Hill Climb of a short season

  • I did, thanks! Good few minutes to spare. Tom, my car-pool buddy, took a wrong turn on the way to recce, didn't get to ride the hill then only just got to his start time!

  • Forgot a pump so rode the "heavy" back-up wheels, not such a bad thing as they have 25mm GP4000/5000 on so much better grip than 23mm cronos. No idea what pressure I had in the rear but didn't get too much slip which was good.

I clocked 4:21. I know Lukas Nerurkar did a 3:57 which in that weather is brilliant. Red Walters (winner of Blazing Saddles) didn't ride so I'm secretly hopeful for a podium place. Pretty happy with the power (415w - 6.9w/kg), fastest ever time on the flat section, just need to get a better rhythm on the steep second half - lost a fair bit of time there I reckon.

  • Richard Cartland got 2nd, they've got a write up here but not the full results https://www.sussexca.org.uk/2020-results.html

  • Take it back full results are up now, you'll want to check them I reckon

  • Yussssss. Nice to get a silver!

Lukas Nerurkar is 16! Redic. This seems to be year of super strong juniors. His strava notes were "legs not quite there". He's also 4th on Ditchling Beacon after 3 pros. The Tour of Britain has been over there!

  • Fantastic effort!

Red Walters is local to me, and can put out some silly watts.
Not far off Calum Brown in short efforts, but probably stronger for aerobic assisted efforts 3-5m.

  • Amazing well done!

  • Well done David!

Interesting does seem to be a bit of a trend for juniors/track background/sprinters doing well, wonder if it's the lack of other events pushing people towards HCs or something else?

  • You are fully nuts.
Was a miserable day today. No idea how you race in that.
    (Congratulations - in other words).

  • Not as impressive as David's efforts but I beat four other self described "non-climbers"at least a decade older than me from my club, so I think I'm technically club hill climb champion with a trophy and everything!

  • Getting out and racing is f*ing impressive. Congrats!!!!

  • Well done. Up there with @hippy!

  • Good work everyone. Grim out there.

  • No idea how you race in that.

5 minute duration helps. I wouldn’t do a 100km road race in it!

  • I'm officially club hill climb champion

    Boom! (fixed that for you)

  • Literally the pinnacle of cycling achievement. Yellow jersey winners WISH they had our palmares.
