MGOOF : Modern groupset on old frame

The problem with matte paint is it doesn't stay matte for very long. I should know, I have a nice shiny top tube on my own matte black bike. Anyway, it's just a standard Pinarello, I don't think any puppies have been harmed.

I got a kicking on here for a black Thomson post on an old frame, they are firm but fair on here, and saved me from rash temptation and evil ways. (self flagellates)

As I’m flirting with modern alloys at the moment, I feel compelled to restate my commitment to the MGOF. This thing rides very well.

What rear derailleur is that? Looks like quite a long cage or is it just a trick of the visuals?

Looks great, just needs a S65 or equivalent. Those Thomsons always look out of place on older frames.

Very tasty with the black rims..

The Coppi is particularly tasty. Carbon rims on an MGOF are just the ticket.

I was getting the impression most were built up as flights of fancy rather than riders. So was wondering how much they all get ridden.

I ride a mid 90s Basso Astra with DA7800. I use it for club rides, hill training, Audax rides, and sometimes ride it to work for a treat. Last year I bought a Carbon Cinelli with full Sram Red, and normally still ride the Basso because it's more comfortable. Might actually sell the Cinelli as it's taking up room, and sram shifting is dogshit.

Here’s another reader’s, that’s currently my only road bike. Always wanted a olive drab bike so I bought this Liotto (Columbus Genius) in need of some tlc and built this.

I made a switch from carbon a few years ago after buying a Master as a second bike which quickly became the first.
