Lots of people have done well out of watches but I'm not sure they knew they were going to.
The three questions that determine value / investment status right now are
- how rare is it?
- how good (and original) is the condition?
- is it a Rolex or Patek Philippe?
Not much else fits the bill. The souscription F P Journes were called out by Ben Clymer some years back as being undervalued and they've shot right up, next time he does something like that I'm sure a lot of people will be taking notice.

I’ve got a Steinhart Ocean one with Ceramic bezel- boxes and papers etc I think it’s 42mm. Any interest on here?
Was a desk diver for 18m but I came across it when packing and thought it deserved to be worn.
Is £300 fair ?

I wouldn't recommend buying any Tudor as an investment that wasn't either an extremely good example of an MN snowflake sub, or one of the Only Watch piece uniques.
TBH I wouldn't buy any watch as an investment and I don't think many people would recommend doing so.
I agree with your overall point on watches as investments, but all the Tudor subs have seen big increases over the last five years or so, not just the MN snowflakes. Same for Big Blocks. Not sure that will continue given the economic situation we are in, but as for all vintage watches there is a limited supply, so if demand continues to stay strong then prices will only go one way.

That’s the thing isn’t it. The Tudor sub market is being driven by the Rolex sub market, so it depends on that staying strong... which it might well, but who knows? Whereas the truly rare and exceptional stuff is likely “safer”.
Anyway - better to buy to collect and enjoy. And definitely don’t take investment advice from people on internet forums.

Fair point. Lots of the watches I wanted to buy a few years ago are now totally out of reach, but no idea if that will keep going. So I agree that it’s best is to focus on buying what you enjoy. And definitely think modern Tudors won’t make good investments, even though I own one!

Kept bashing my Squale at work, got a cheap quartz diver that was made literally for commercial diving, extremely impressive.

So, here it is, the watch that came in instead of the GS SBGX. I do like the GS on the pictures but proved to be way too shiny in real life.
This is 41mm but feels way smaller than I thought. It is a bit chunky, but it’s an auto chronograph... I wouldn’t expect it to be thin.

It is a hell of a watch for the price in my opinion. I’m so glad Longines didn’t mess the dial up with a date at 4:30 or something ridiculous. I think it’s perfectly imperfect (the asymmetry) as is.

Have tried one of those on. Too chunky for my dainty wrists but really lovely. A nice choice over the GS. Totally different, of course, but nice nonetheless.

Yeah, a Mk XI would be a grail watch; up til now I'd have said an original Speedbird was as close as I might ever get, but the Navigator looks very very nice.
