  • Midsommar is a whole thing eh?!

  • Plus One - 2 pals go to numerous weddings as each others guests.
Nothing ground breaking but quite amusing. Probably worth the 90 minutes on Netflix for a feel good RomCom

Edit, not sure why that was @-ed sorry EB.

  • No worries!

  • Shivers: Meteorite lands in small town, brings alien parasite. Edit: I meant Slithers.

So far so familiar, this comedy horror b movie references a lot of movies lovingly and the action is well done. Shivers, invasion of the body snatchers, alien...

Worth a watch if you don't mind special effects and acting being a bit so-so.

  • Da 5 Bloods.

I don't think it was as awful as previous reviewers upthread. It felt about 45 minutes too long and a bit daft at times but it was diverting.

  • It's a Cronenberg classic, there are some laughs to be had but his intentions were dead serious... I love his 70s and 80s stuff...

  • Typo, I meant Slithers. The alien parasite in it is pretty much the Slithers one there is also a scene that directly reference Shivers.

I love Shivers, the Fly and Videodrome. A history of violence is really good, and his later work is also quality, just speaks less to me.

  • Slither

James Gunn directing. Remember getting tanked up and seeing it in the cinema. Was very fun especially because we were the only ones attending

You can clearly see his early humour and that he had worked with Troma

  • Ha! That figures, I don't remember a meteorite in Shivers and the parasite isn't even an alien... My bad... 🙃

Try Rabid and The Brood, if you haven't already...

  • Suddenly I feel the need to go on a Hellraiser binge

  • sure you wanna do that? i mean... this is kinda where we ended up the last time they tried.

  • Is that Matt Lucas?

  • Nice to see Ross Kemp still getting work

  • I missed this episode of Silicon Valley, what happened to Gavin Belson?

  • I'd stop just before the straight-to-video stage of the franchise.

  • well now that does sound like a waste of perfectly good suffering.

  • The Dressmaker and Predestination yesterday, both great in their very different ways.

Both starring Sarah Snook, which is nice.

  • Suddenly I feel the need to go on a Hellraiser binge

Don't go beyond the third film. They get progressively worse after the genius OG

  • Peanut Butter Falcon, took me a while to get into it but very enjoyable schmaltz.

  • I wish the Purge films were better. Just watched the very average The First Purge, having only seen the very average original before. Just way too self serious. If they hadn't bothered trying to, very poorly, make any sort of sort of point and it was just a stupid, fun, Escape From New York-esque action romp it could be half decent.

  • We watched Hamilton tonight and it lived up to the hype. It’s a great cast, several of the leads have gone on to do other good stuff. The production for TV seemed a bit raw but adds to show’s charm. Despite not being a fan of musicals I was swept up and gripped from start to finish. The music is decent with plenty of clever references.

I wonder how Miranda would re-write the show today given the events of the past few months.

  • Saw it live last year and watched it again on Friday. Good recording.

Atmos sound made it incredible though. Really good mix and made you feel like you were there.

  • Mrs EB made me watch Hamilton on Saturday night, she is a huge fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda. I absolutely do not like musicals and this didn't change my mind. Impressive etc etc, just really not enjoyable for me, I was bored shitless.

I think at least if I'd been there, I'd have had the occasion and spectacle.

  • I absolutely do not like musicals

This is the only ideologically sound position m. Musicals are the devil.
