If I'd known Aram was a fan before we saved the world from oblivion with our patented brand of high energy horror rock'n'roll I would've thought twice about offering him the drum stool...

How could you not think Aram was a fan?

Rewatched LoTR extended editions over three evenings. Dang are we lucky these films were made when they were and how they were.

i'd invite him round next week for a catch up but he'd only pitch up a month later.
still miss him tho.

Agreed but occasionally an exception comes along. An Andrew Lloyd Webber musical is my worst nightmare but Evita the movie is fantastic.

Just finished watching this. It was a bit like if the original Bad Lieutenant was very British and very horrible. Worth a watch, maybe not if you're squeamish though.

The Old Guard, bit like a mashup of all the bits of films where immortal vampires opine about living forever while everything around them dies interspersed with kung-fu marine action but not a terrible waste of 2 hours if you want some mindless entertainment.

I was expecting more Highlander, but wasn't disappointed.
Some of the fights were reminiscent of Equilibrium. -

Just watched Heriditary after watching Midsommar the other week. Almost the same film!
-
• #16514
Same but different. Did you enjoy them?
-
• #16515
Yeah, thought Midsommar was better. Heriditary had its moments for sure
-
• #16516
I saw both in pretty quick succession, after seeing Midsommar at the cinema and didn't get that vibe at all! Hereditary felt much more like a full blown horror film, Midsommar was more slow paced and tense. Definitely due a rewatch of both!

Midsommar was great.
Some incredibly brutal scenes that i was not expecting. Not seen Hereditary yet, its on my Netflix list.

Yeah I saw last night it's on Netflix. Guess who paid to rent it from Amazon Prime....

Watched Reservoir Dogs for the first time in over 20 years on the weekend. Still a good movie with some strong dialogue and the Madsen scene still holds up but f-me is the racist language ham fisted and unnecessary.
Watching it again I thought Marvin (Kirk Baltz) the unfortunate cops performance was really strong. Sadly doesn't seem like it did much to boost his career.

Classic Tarantino, there's some pretty uncomfortable and unnecessary racism in a lot of his earlier stuff!

I was inspired by @EB and watched Hereditary last night.
I liked it, a bit creepy, wasn't 100% sure WTF was going on most of the time, deviated from what i was expecting some what.
spoilers
I was expecting Hereditary to be a story of grief and how it affects different people, but ended up with something different. If Midsommar gets compared to The Wicker Man, then Hereditary is Rosemary's Baby. Neither comparison is really fair or accurate, but probably as close as you will get. -

I did enjoy it, definitely has some WTF moments!

the ending was laughable.

It was! Aren't they all?!

The Souvenir....
From what I read I was expecting it to be better. The skipping over things happening and only showing the aftermath didn't really work for me...and the main male characters voice really fucking grated on me after the first few minutes.Ray and Liz...
As a huge Mike Leigh fan, and general fan of miserable, slice of life type films, I really liked it.
Reading the director/photographers backstory only adds to the sense of tragedy, and looking at his original photographs from the book 'Ray's a laugh', I'd say they nailed it visually. There's not really a moments joy in the entire film, but well worth watching if you like this kind of thing...like me.
excruciating experiences, one and all.
furthermore, any "art form" that routinely inflicts andrew lloyd wbbrrbrbbrbbr on an unsuspecting populace should be held in perpetual contempt.
