  • Yeah, tough one. I would be upset if someone did this to me but I know it does happen. You can cancel the transaction but note it does get flagged by PayPal/eBay. If you do it too much, they will limit your selling capabilities. Note, that's only for repeat offenses.

Depends on the market. They seem to sell for more in the U.S. than Europe for starters. The Turtle is also more valuable/desirable than the Samurai it would appear.

If you want to maximize profit, I'd just put it on at your Buy It Now price and just let it do it's thing. But yeah - uncool for the buyer.

  • Top tip with eBay, set the reserve to the lowest price you’re willing to sell for and this won’t happen.

  • If you want to cancel, do it now - eBay won't let you back out after a certain amount of time.

  • Cunning.. I like it

  • #cuntseller

That aside, I would have thought in a niche market like this you run the risk of people recognising your next sale, thinking fuck that guy and you end up with less people bidding and a lower price. Plus this sale price has already set a data point and people won’t be looking to pay any more if they can help it.

  • In my experience of selling newer second hand Seiko watches, I don't think you've done so badly there. They generally haemorrhage value unless it's one of the really sought after models.

I'd also not cancel. You agreed to sell it. Dont be a dick.

  • I'd also not cancel. You agreed to sell it. Dont be a dick

    This.

  • I feel Ebay give you the tools; you can set a reserve, you can set the starting price, there isn't really a reason to not get the money you want (other than no-one buying it)
If it sells for less than you wanted, and you didn't employ these measures, then you take a hit.

  • There's 2 other grey dawn's that sold for £499 on buy-it-now so you're not far off.

  • Thanks everyone. @DethBeard, totally agree with your point. It’s my fault for being a bit too confident that it would go for more than this.

But a deal is a deal and I’m not going to be That Guy (tm) to realistically get less than a hundred quid more.

  • If it makes you feel any better, I regret selling most of my Seiko watches because you never get close to what you think they are worth. They're watches to buy to keep, not flip.

  • They're watches to buy second hand

  • Helson arrived today, 40mm brass Sharkdiver and I'm loving it so far. The quality for the price is incredible. Very impressed with the FedEx delivery too, 24 hours from dispatching from Helson to my wrist. The watch roll it comes with is very nice too, great quality.

  • That's new, mine came in a massive plastic tube

  • Nice! Showing patina already.

  • Yeah I saw that tube online and was expecting to receive that, but was pleasantly surprised by the roll. Having said I wasn't a fan of rubber straps too, this is incredibly comfortable.

  • Would you like it if someone did that to you?

    this

  • I like it, is it a homage base on a well known watch’s or Helson’s own design? (Like the fifty fathom).

  • If you don't mind me asking, how much extra where you charged in import fees?

  • Good question, I presumed it was based on a homage of the sub, but people who know more about the brand than me may know more. Either way, for me the brass is unique enough nobody should be mistaking it for anything else!

  • Nothing yet, but I may get stung later, FedEx have a history of following up a few weeks later with a bill in my experience. Having said all that, I'm in Tokyo, not the UK, so YMMV. I think I read before some people get a roughly 20 quid bill.

  • Went to the newly opened Grand Seiko store in Paris. The Place Vendôme (where the store is) limited edition is quite nice.

  • I got charged ~ £20 in import fees. I did notice later that was partly because they'd declared the wrong value (something like $50) for it.

  • I'm in the UK and expecting a delivery tomorrow, I'll let you know.
I figured the 15% saving will cover the fees, if applicable.
