I might be being dim here, but what is the damage supposed to be?
-
• #5157
The thread is worn out and damaged, hence the left crank fell off on it's own accord whilst cycling. I took this into a cycle shop and the worker upon inspection said the thread is damaged because it would not slot back in.

It's hard to see from the photos but possibly could be persuaded back on and then torque up the bolts correctly and all good?
-
• #5159
Yeah the splines look slightly chewed right at the ends - certainly doesn't look borked to me but wdik
-
• #5160
This was attempted but fell right off after the bolts were tightened with the allen key. The crank does not stay on at all anymore
-
• #5161
I did show the seller this and his response was
what do you want from me then responded with it is not my concern anymore
-
• #5162
Looks a bit grubby but doesn’t look broken from here (squints)
-
• #5163
There is a bit of damage to the crank spline on the crank arm if you soon into the last photo.
But as +ChasnotRobert has said it seems like it can be reinstalled and if properly torqued could be fine.
@HasnainIqbal did break a rule though of asking for bank transfer...

• #5164
The local cycle shop attempted to put this back on and tighten the bolts but as soon as any real weight was applied it fell right off.
£400 down and now i need to get a new crank, not sure where to locate one either
-
• #5165
Could be the threads for the allen bolts in the crank arm are stripped? If it keeps falling off...
-
• #5166
Are you saying the pinch bolts on the crank arm will not tighten? The axle splines and the interface for them in the crank look good enough.
-
• #5167
did break a rule though of asking for bank transfer.
Is that a rule? I always ask for it.
-
• #5168
The pinch bolts do not tighten, they are also worn out the allen key will sit and once you attempt to tighten it comes right off
-
• #5169
Tbh, a Shimano hollowtech crankset is not the hardest thing to find.
For example:

well the cycle shop attempted to tighten and put the crank back on but fell off right away - would not tighten or actually sit back onto the groove

Thank you for that but i need the 170 measurement which is proving difficult and expensive for an issue that i have been left with

Is the pin done up correctly?
-
• #5174
Struggling to see the issue here. The spline on the axle and crank look fine (from here), and the threading on the inside of the axle shouldn't really suffer any damage as the preload bolt that threads into is made of plastic. Do you mean one/both of the pinch bolts on the NDS crank arm are damaged?
I'm sure someone on here has a spare Shimano chainset kicking around they can offer for cheap anyway.

170mm compact:
had an awful experience in buying a bike
Seller sold me a boardman in which there was multiple modifications done to the bike. Test ride only lasted about 20seconds down the road.
Paid 400 quid, on my first ride out with the bike the ultegra crank on the left side of the bike had fallen off. I took this to the shop and inquired about it and turns out the thread was previously damages and been forced in.
Asked the seller about it and he denied there being any issues previously and was not supportive in this issue.
His response to my issue was at the time of selling it, it was in a sellable condition and it no longer concerns him disgusting behavior I didn't even ask for a refund i asked if he can cover the cost of a different pair as it was an existing issue which was blatantly masked at the point of sale.
@HasnainIqbal is the username of the seller who has sold me this bike, failed to sell and has basically said not his problem anymore
