  • I've ordered a couple of those for the cupboard...

I always leave the portafilter in the machine but cranked all the way in and it's left on for most of the day... Not a good combo... Thanks for your replies, all... 🖤

  • Portafilter: I pull out. It's safe that way, so the priest told me.

  • I push mine in way too far, I think that's been the problem...

  • that's what he said

  • Don't suppose anyone has tried the 54mm bottomless portafilter off AliExpress in a Sage machine?

  • No, but if you do then let me know...

  • Briefly, o brains o' coffee, which is the best/recommended hand coffee grinder for stovetop espresso and available outside of Amazon. Merci d'avance

  • I like my Helor 101.

  • @Fyoosh What's the little thingy I need for flow control on Bonavita kettle?

  • cold brew is a success! got a full pint (2 cups) it took 12 hours and 3 x loads of ice. beans are quite a coarse grind Origin San Fermin, lightly tamped in the aeropress.

  • Bit of a cross-post with the 3D printing thread... I asked about getting a shallower drip tray printed for my Gaggia Classic: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/188924/?offset=100#comment15326185 which has been done elsewhere.

@Stonehedge has kindly offered to look into this, but wondered whether there might be others interested?

A bulk order would have the benefit of coming in matching black :)

  • Great thank you! 👍

  • Water coming from between group head and porterfilter on Silvia - need to replace? Is it simple enough to do?

  • Don't know much about those machines but if it's a grouphead gasket replacement it should be pretty straightfoward. Normally just use a small hook to get the existing gasket out and place the new one back in, seating it by inserting the portafilter.

  • I’m waiting for a Comandante C40 to arrive, so I may be selling a Made by Knock Feldgrind 2 in the next couple weeks.

  • Interesting thanks @Fyoosh yes, keep me posted. I'll read up in the Feldgrind2

  • Anyone here who's using the Peak Water filter noticing a distinctly fishy smell coming from it? It doesn't seem to be affecting the taste much, but it is pretty off-putting, especially the aromatic waft of hot fish I'm currently getting from the kettle...

I've ordered a new filter in case the current one is at the end of it's life; but I'd hope I'd get more than 6 weeks out of a each cartridge, even with the additional WFH workload.

  • No, nothing like that from mine; although it's not getting heavy usage as I'm still switching between it and bottled water at the moment as a comparison.

  • Selling my 2 coffee hand grinders.
Just cleaned them properly all the way through where I could, so nice and fresh.

    1.Hario Mini Slim
-used, but not abused, used mostly for travels and sometimes at home when I couldn’t get my coffee grinded in store
-these go for about £30 new, so maybe £17?

    2.Porlex
-this was bought about 10 months ago to replace the Hario above, but shortly after buying it, me and my flatmate treated ourselves to electric grinder. Absolutely minimal use on this (grinded maybe 5x250g bags), comes with original box too
-bought for £57, so maybe £40?

    In London, but can post.

  • I ordered one the other day for my DTP. I'll get back to you when it eventually arrives. I saw on coffeeforums someone had success.

  • Yes! So much so I've stopped using it.

Only happened after about 1 month of use so am waiting for my filter replacements to come through and see if that shifts it
