Bike update:
DA-7402 has a massive changed with the new brake pads upgrades, but massive thanks to @Fox for hand delivering me a set of DA-7403 dual pivot brakes for the road bike.
I’m still sceptical on the looks/design of the brake, as in my eyes the the radical design of the 7402 suits the bike much better. But there is no denying that the 7403 performs much better. Function over form as they say.
I think there is not much difference in braking power mainly because the bike weighs a lot or maybe it my weight. But the when you release the lever you definitely feel the braking pivot and I guess that gives you a lot more confidence psychologically when riding.

7402 are not period correct anyway for the frame, right? Stick with those, go all modern later if you wish.

rear brake housing slightly too short and front needs this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jagwire-Flexible-Brake-V-Brake-10-Silver/dp/B001PT9VJG

Will do this probably next year. Parts are really hard to find for the DA9000

What’s the benefit of these?

better cable actuation in tighter curves on small/awkward frames

Not really a small frame, just myself like riding with a lower stack position, though if I need to do the trendy bike bag at the front of the bike it is optional.

So this will be another project, recently brought from @punkture for my brother who recently got his trek marine stolen and I decided to bring him over to the Look family. Which is always nice to have another look bike in to the family. Also it’s nice to have a traditional geometry and relatively modern lightweight to the bike work on.

Once I got this from @punkture I decided to give it a quick wash to give the old bike a fresh look. But also get my head around the groupset of Campagnolo (Never used to own on before) but as it came with the bike I’ll work with what I have got and experience and experiment with something new.
The there are unfortunately with any bike project are a few issues that I’ve noticed right away. Mechanically the bike is fine aside from the front brake cable needed replacing.
It will definitely needs to stripped and fully serviced as some parts do need to be looked after and seen better days before I let my brother ride this properly.
Strange that my brother is 5’11 tall that we have pretty much the same saddle height position but the Reach seems a little short so will replace the 90mm stem to a reason 110mm to fit him better on the bike.

However, the biggest issue on this bike is the broken bottle cage mount that won’t allow me to remove bolt.
Also when removing the stem and trying to look at the bearing height for @mattyc I notice that there is a crack running along the fork steerer for piece of mind will also need to be repaired. Annoying as it is, as least I’ve noticed it now before it will get worse.
But we took it out for a spin today in London Town and it didn’t not seem to have too much mechanical wrong with the bike just annoying not to have the ability to fix a secondary bottle cage atm.
I’ve contracted Ed at carbon repair in east London, hopefully he can fix this without too much hassle.

So how hard is this to be mended?
We have the steerer tube and bottle cage bolt?

@mattyc I finally figured out how to take off the top cap (my stupidity) to remove the bun before trying to take the cap off to see the size of the bearings.
Is there any other measurements you need? Remember I don’t have a digital ruler so it will be only via ballpark via measuring tape.

Awesome! Thanks soo much!
Can you make out what the serial numbers are on the bearings? - MH -P03?
Are they both the same? (Top set and bottom set?)
how tall is the crown race and bottom bearing when on the fork?
Cheers again,

Also just a thought re bottle cage bolt - can you tighten it? If so you could cut the bottom of the hole out from the bottle cage and slot it under that bolt then tighten it up?
(Or cut the top off the cage hole and slide it up under etc)

Both bearings are 'MH-P03 Ø4 1 x 6.5 x 45'
I'll check the crown race this afternoon for you, can you show me what dimensions you looking for?
-
• #696
I don't get this.
Basically the bolt just spins round the seattube holes within the frame, cannot tighten or loosen at all.

Riding with that crack in the steerer would make me extremely nervous.

Love these two together
