  • Not a bad idea. The problem is I used to dash in, lob it on the counter and be on my way. Now they want me to wait in the queue so they can weigh and scan it, rather negating the convenience of doing the cashier bit for them before I bring it in.

  • 2 dropouts will probably be enough.

  • which thread pitch would be best to choose?

Whichever your frame builder can get. If you're worried, get a couple of spare through bolts now, although I suspect that it's the OLN dimension which will trip up future proofing rather than the thread pitch.

If I'm designing for bikes with a free hand, I prefer 1.0mm pitch for everything from M6 up.

  • Whichever your frame builder can get.

Well I haven't really seen any 1.75mm dropouts to be fair. So if neither of the other two are going to go out of fashion in the next year or two, I'll just get whichever.
Thanks. 142x12 seems to be safe for now at least

  • There are a few new parcel post boxes around London now. Mostly central. Only smaller parcels though.

If you go to a Post Office with self-service machines the "host" can normally deal with prepaid packages without you joining the main queue.

  • Key fob issue (hopefully).
In the last couple of weeks my car has, on about 1 in 6 occasions failed to start when using the 'main' central locking fob key. Everything has fired up as normal on two clicks but the last turn has failed to engage anything more. Thankfully the spare key, not with central locking seems to work fine; also when caught short the other day, I disconnected the battery for a minite, re connected and she started. Any ideas? Hopefully just a fob battery (Remote CL still working fine though)?? @Bobbo (you're a bit of a car oracle?)

    Cheers

  • I think that causes the chuck on an ML-7 (which i use) to unscrew itself

You can cheat the sprocket thread by cutting it in the first op, using the pre-cut OD of the lock ring thread as your relief so you can have the sprocket thread tight to the shoulder without worrying about either reversing the spindle or having to control the stop very precisely. The lock ring thread looks after itself when you turn the part around for the second op as it's left handed 🙂

The pictures are in the wrong order, on reflection I'd do the ID thread first as it's furthest from the chuck so you want all the stock in place to maximise rigidity.

  • does anyone have any knowlege of creating podcasts and can reccomend a suitable podcast hoster? It'll be faily small, it's on a niche subject, but it'd be nice to not have compulsary adverts, to be able to remove the podcasts should I need to, and the process of upload and publishing be fairly simple.

Can I just use Soundcloud then generate an RSS feed from there?

  • What's wrong with Youtube? Other than adverts, if you're not using an adblocker. It's a lot easier to direct someone to a site they already use. The only reason I'm still on Facebook is for some niche groups which wouldn't be sustainable on another site with less traffic. One tried going to Discord, and that completely failed.

  • how do i make this write each iteration to a separate line?

    "text_file = open('d:/cw01.txt',"a")
    "text_file.write('$x:{}, y:{}; rgb:{}'.format(x_block, y_block, colour))
    "text_file.close()

  • Put a \n at the end of the line?

    Edit: \r\n on Windows

  • From my understanding, creating an RSS from soundcloud should work.
Regarding youtube, shouldn't there be no ads on a video if the creator doesn't select the option and there's no copyrighted material being used in the video (which should be fairly easy with a podcast)?

  • shouldn't there be no ads on a video if the creator doesn't select the option

    lol

Youtube screens ads on content which they've demonetised based on content guidelines.

  • yes, I think also you can't publish a podcast on apple podcasts and such from youtube. Plus if you have a video with just audio and a still video then it gets demoted in search results. It's a work thing so I'd like to do it properly. think I'll go with soundcloud unless someone can give me a reason that's a bad idea

  • that's what I meant with

and there's no copyrighted material being used in the video

  • that's what I meant

That's not what I meant. YouTube are making money off content which they have told the original creator is not suitable for monetisation due to content such as depicting dead bodies or Nazi insignia - the demonetisation is killing legitimate history channels, but YouTube making money off it anyway just adds insult to injury.

You can't tell YouTube not to run ads over your content, you can't control which ads they run, and you can't assert any claim to a share of the ad revenue. Of course, they have a right to act like that, and I wouldn't want anybody to attempt to stop them by force of law, but they are a bunch of cunts who nobody in their right mind would trust as a long term reliable host.

  • Does anyone have a link to a “make your own aero wheel covers” guide?

  • Does anyone have a link to a “make your own aero wheel covers” guide?

  • There's this one https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/311448/

May be beyond the scope of most of us though ...

  • M3 thread taps - why do both M3 0.5mm and M3 0.6mm taps exist? I thought M3 x 0.5mm was the standard, so why is there a 0.6mm pitch too?

  • M3 thread taps - why do both M3 0.5mm and M3 0.6mm taps exist?

0.5mm is standard ISO coarse. There will be fine threads too, 0.35mm IIRC, but 0.6mm is too coarse to be useful, unless self-loosening is a desired feature

  • why is there a 0.6mm pitch too?

Is there an M3x0.6 tap? I found one listing, but most of the Google results actually resolve to M3.5x0.6, and mis-listing is not unheard of, so I'd want to see solid evidence before believing in the existence of M3.0x0.6🙂

  • Assume this is a typo? Or just garbage?
