  • A sub 20 minute 5k was out of reach for the year

    202020 target?

    Well done on the 10k!

  • Has been a mixed year overall for me. I missed my running goals but that's partly down to breaking some ribs and getting pneumonia in Feb and then having another fairly significant health problem afterwards.. Took quite a while to shake.

    Still managed to get 150 runs in though so feeling pretty pleased overall. I achieved what I reasonably could.

  • 34 of 500 is nuts, mincing or no. Nice going!

  • A way off future targets yet, though 202020 has a ring to it! Thanks @Arducius & @rhb
    @Stonehedge that sounds rough though you still got a lot done. Nice going. Followed your mountain exploits too, very good.

  • NYD parkrun, awaiting official results but looking like a 20s PB.
    Found myself leading the run for the first three quarters of a mile, not knowing the route!

    Gentle walk about the best I'll manage today.

  • Looking to do more running this year as my partner is training for a marathon (after a successful half in 2019) and because I CBA cleaning my bike in the shower after every ride during the winter ... I'm trying to decide on a watch to get to avoid having to take my huge phone with me. My partner has the Garmin Forerunner 35 and she's happy with it but I hate the shape and want something more round. Looking at maybe getting the 235 second hand on eBay, any other suggestions?

  • I have a 735xt which I use for swimming (occasionally) and cycling as well as running.

    Amazon had a cheap deal on the 735 recently.

    My only gripe is that it sometimes takes a while to get a GPS fix (minutes rather than the seconds it normally takes)

  • Suunto ambit3 - mines a few years old and been faultless. It does the caching of satellites thing (which is probably standard now) but means it gets its GPS in seconds - which was my gripe with an earlier Garmin Forerunner model which could take minutes and struggle in built up areas.

    Think I paid 90 quid though, looks like they cost a bit more now

  • Forerunner 45 is the updated version and is round.

  • After looking at the website for months I finally pulled the trigger and paid the deposit for Deadwater, now just have to wait and see if my application is accepeted :s

  • Have got a few fitness targets in mind this year, starting with the Richmond Half in March. Not run over 10km before so a bit nervous but excited. Just need to shift this cold so that training can start in earnest.

  • Is there a running equivalent of a recovery ride?

    I did a fast (for me) 10km yesterday and I’m quite sore but I’m craving the buzz this morning.

    I think I can properly get into running. I find I get that rush much quicker than I do with cycling and seem to have plateaued on the bike by getting spat from road races every week or clinging on to finish 25th.

    I’ll keep my hand in on the bike and do some duathlons etc but I’ll NEVER go sleeveless.

  • Why not? Open water swimming is amazing

  • You’ve not seen me swim.

  • I've found getting into running has allowed me to enjoy it as 'sport', which gives me freedom to worry a lot less about fitness wrt cycling and just enjoy getting out on my bike.

    Yeah same principals apply I think. Keep it really low intensity, watch your HR if you have a device that will let you do so or use breathing as a guide. I sometimes do a run with my mouth closed to keep a lid on things.
