  • Few point of interest from a local rally sprint in Otago

  • I put the 190 on Ebay and within 5 minutes someone has bought it.

    I'll be sad to see it go. Still not sure what's next.

  • It’s still some sort of Toyota engine, stroked to 2.2L, fully forged internals. I will probably see him again at the next event so I’ll see if I can pry some more info from him

  • Just nosey that is all. Has it kept the rear boot? Intrigued about the placing of the air intake intercooler, not seen that before usually gets stuck on the side engine vent and some use the fan to get air in the the engine bay to cool.. Also using the MK1 early engine cooling intake, does that make a difference? Is the inlet air intake on the roof.

    Wonder if the engine is one of the vvti with the vvti still there. the 1.8 2zz.

    It was brilliant fun as a standard 1.6....wonder how stable it is as the car has a very short wheel base. Or would that be an adavantage here?

  • I'm not sure about the rear boot, he did open it briefly while we were chatting to them but i didn't really get to see under the skin too much. There were various NACA ducts in the rear quarters going into that area though.

    Black vent on the roof was a duct into a large carbon airbox behind the rear window, it's just covered by the spoiler in the picture. That went straight into the turbo then back out into the intercooler on the lower rear spoiler, which had a spray system and a chamber he filled with ice.

    Didn't sound like it had any sort of VVT, it ran a link ECU with various modes including launch / anti lag etc. It had decent traction off the line to be fair, i didn't watch it anywhere other than the straight upto the first corner but he basically appeared to regularly win, and holds the 2wd record at Ashley forest rally sprint apparently, so it must handle alright!

  • The rear luguage cover (boot) looks split, at a guess the intercooler is not easily removable.

    Yeah can see something going through the rear plexi glass, at a guess a filter to filter out the bigger lumps of dirt/stones. At a guess the spray system sprays water in to the inlet to cool the charge further, wonder if the chamber has dry ice ;) But wow.

    The AW11 was always a settled car, but occasionally it would bite. Had fun drifting the MR, well drifting of sorts but sometimes when I wasn't paying attention the back would step out not sure if I did something like slightly lifting off but trying to catch the slide and just wasn't quick or talented enough. At a guess it's not running anything near standard supension, but the standard suspension was fully adjustable front and rear as standard.

  • Regarding run flats...if you have even the slimmest scintilla of mechanical competence, buy a mini compressor and one of these.

    Used twice now. Keep a squeezy bottle of water in the boot just to help find the hole.

  • Shitbox is dead! American tourist tried to do a u-turn without checking his mirrors... Ka-blammo! Both in hospital getting checked out, just a bit of shock I hope... New vehicle time, wonder how much they'll give me for a perfectly running car with cosmetic defects?

  • Shit dude, hope you all check out ok an no whiplash or anything. That is a horrid thing getting kablamoed out of nowhere. The shock can take quite a while to wear off.

    We're currently on long drive from Sydney to Byron... Standard of driving is pretty low.

  • Shit news but hopefully there's minimal damage to you both. Car looks like it's a write off but I guess it could have been worse. Take it easy and if there's a positive to it,at least you get to spend a bit of time thinking about what you might want next

  • I’m driving a Berlingo around Lanzarote- convinces next that in a car where gear changing isn’t a big (positive) part of the driving experience then I’d prefer the car to do it for me.

    Automatic 911? Absolutely not.

  • We now have the brakes complete, the battery boxes have been re-instated and the fuse box/rev limiter/switch box made. the front roll cage has been removed (again!) to refit the orig dash and switches/guages and wire up.

    the big zorse has been ordered, along with the lexan side windows/slidy vents (overkill!), so we will at least look and sound pro at the back of the grid...

    exciting. i have three more days of study, then I am in a race to finish before the end of feb.
