That’s a Vauxhall Astra for our UK friends.
What was your Mazda? Guessing Axela MPS 2.3 turbo if it was the quick one!

No, just the BK 2.0 Sport sedan... Really nippy and direct... This Holden isn't too bad if you throw it about a bit, the speedo displays 5kmph slower than it's actually going which is a bit annoying... It feels quite big even tho' it's quite small... Not a euph...
-
• #51389
That’s illegal re: the speedo.
It can show more but never less...
-

When we first moved out here we had a corolla rental that over read by 5km/h.
It was pretty annoying driving into central and getting people hassling you to overtake when you were sat doing bang on the speed limit on cruise

• #51391
I meant more, my apologies...

I got given a really crappy Toyota Echo when I took my car in for its last service, that speedo was bang on the money (with Waze) so I just use my phone to tell me how fast I'm really going now... Very useful for cops and speed traps anyway, couldn't drive without it now...

The big story from today was finding out that the other driver didn't have any extra insurance, he's now liable for the damage to his car and mine... But he kind of isn't, if you know what I mean... There's a potential scenario where the rental company will chase their money and I get told to fuck off...
Other driver called today and offered me US$3k cash to cover the cost of my car, that's probably more than it's worth... I told him I'd be happy to take that once the insurance claim has gone through... I've only got third party because of the hail damage which leaves me in a precarious position where nobody is looking out for my interests... Ho hum...

Might look good on your insurance to not have to claim? Only consider this if your deffo not injured!
-
• #51395
This. Newly qualified driver with a written off car is not a good look at insurance renewal time.
-
• #51396
I can't claim anyway, it won't show up on my insurance... I'm either get a payout from the guy that crashed into me, the amount from the write-off or both!! I'm not quite sure what's happening, haven't been through this before...
And I almost forgot! He is currently on a plane back to California, where he lives... Amazing, eh?

If you're in an accident, regardless of blame or which insurance pays out, you have to declare it. So even if your company pays nowt it's logged and affects your premium.
IANA insurance person though -
• #51398
I didn't realise that, thanks for the tip... Maybe his cash offer is the way to go then... I'll check with my insurance people tomorrow...
-
• #51399
the insurance cunts will know the car has been written off anyway, so even if you don't make a claim they will be aware of the incident...

I'm a rookie driver also so not hugely experienced but I also gather that even if the accident is ruled as not your fault, it still fucks with your premiums.
Well tidy!
