  • I think the Bassman might be cheap because it’s really rusty...?

TS with a Marshall. Mph. You’ve changed, man. You’ve changed.

  • Actually I like it.

  • But it isn't a JMP or a JCM800... So I'm in the clear...

    Super Champ next!

  • SL-X didn't come with a footswitch, can I buy any single button Marshall jobbie? I'm guessing not, any ideas?

  • Any old single button switch should do it no?

  • The Bassman is rusty now that you mention it...

  • Just dialled in a pretty ace sound with the LP Custom in about two minutes, haven't had a chance to crank it yet... Pleased so far, does exactly what I hoped it would...

  • 🖤

  • Fuck dude, that looks like all teenage dreams.

  • Wait til the A cab arrives!!!

  • acab.

  • "WFH" today so naturally was lounging about drinking tea and playing reverby chuck berry riffs with the practice amp cranked. Old Maurice from next door comes round and bangs on the door to tell me to turn it up. Geddin.

  • Well pleased with the pickups in the tele BTW. I also changed the wiring so the tone control only works on the bridge as well. The neck humbucker is a Duncan Antiquity so it's quite low output and bright (for a humbucker) so with both pickups on, I can roll back the treble on the bridge and get this great quacky sort of 335ish middle position kinda sound that works great for early r&r stuff.

  • Plus if you roll the tone right off, you can can play chords on the neck humbucker with OD or distortion then step on a fuzz and switch to the bridge for great violin-like goodness without having to touch the tone control. Shoulda done this years ago.

  • Played a new Tokai 335 last weekend. Was impressed.

  • I would love an old Greco one, they're still so pricey tho'... Great guitars...

  • I've just acquired a Line6 Helix HX. The plan is to use it for all of my clean tone effects (delay/ reverb/ chorus) and then use stompboxes for the more unusual effects.

I suspect this is going to take some getting used to...

  • Finally got the back off my B cab so I could have a look at what speakers were in there, what a lovely surprise! 😁

    This cab was AU$150... 🤑

  • One way to make people green with envy!

  • The ones @rickster found in his old attic were even cheaper!! TBH I was expecting to find mismatched rubbish in there... Nice surprise... Looking forward to seeing what's in the A cab...

  • Thought I'd share this, since I've just dusted it off. It's from the early 90s and made by Shadow, who are best known for piezo pickups for acoustic guitars. It's a fairly standard super-strat with Schaller hardware (Floyd-Rose licensed design), but the pickups are unusual. They're tunable so you adjust their response to different frequency bands. The neck is much flatter than the HSS strat copy that I usually play, but I seem to be able to switch between them without too much trouble.

The trem is currently locked out, because I'm not one for divebombs and I'm considering completely changing the nut and bodging a standard bridge so I can get rid of all the metalwork around the fine tuners. I'm only going to do what I can without having to change or add anything to the body itself, but I've got a couple of ideas.

  • I just about finished carving the neck on my LP.

It's got skarv joint at the headstock - basically means the neck is made of two pieces of wood rather than one, as per a Gibson. This will make it much stronger, so it's unlikely to suffer the classic Les Paul headstock break.

Even so, I wanted a volute (the thicker, decorative part between the headstock and neck) anyway to reinforce it further, and because I like the way they look. Carving this took quite a lot longer than I expected..

Also - I made an instagram to save poluting this thread with woodworking if anyone's interested :)

Also - that Shadow is cool, a superstrat is high on my list for my next build (in about three years at current rate of progress...)

  • That neck looks great! The volute is very neatly done.

I keep thinking about buying a router to build my own guitar bodies, but the thought of attempting a neck fills me with dread.
