• and has anyone suggested you fucking read the first fucking post?

  • Yeah, I don't like the idea of adding sealant to something not holding air, especially in my lounge. I get what you're saying though, that happens with tubed tyres too. Maybe pulling on valve will make this more obvious - if it's still leaking air it's more likely to be coming from under the tape. I reckon I might just retape the rim if my tape matches the width.

  • No, because no one is stupid enough to think someone as smart as me would have skipped a FAQ.

"valve" isn't even mentioned on the first page. Neither were any of the questions I asked the other day.

    NFAQ is my deal.

  • Put sealant in, pump up outdoors and shake around.

  • Got it seated again (who needs a gym?!) and threw some water at the valve. Still leaking after cleaning up valve. Pulled and pushed valve around and leak changes with valve moment so I reckon the valve is the issue or the tape at the valve. I'll probably try re-taping it first (what tape width for WTB i23?) and then add jizz and then replace the valve if none of that shit works.

  • some people also find over tightening the valve can distort the o ring

  • That might've happened, but they're used wheels and were holding air originally, though with sealant. So, perhaps removing sealant just exposed a poor valve seat? Anyway, I've got work to do but I'll try later to re-tape or maybe jizz around the valve as a temp fix until I get a new valve. Actually, I have some super long valves from the first TL wheel I never got to ride so I could see if they work any better.

  • @hippy Valves like the Orange seal that have a rubber block that covers a bit of area around the hole too seem good, probably not as picky about how pretty the hole in the tape is.

  • it may be that the tape got wrinkled or disturbed by your sausage fingers, i'd be pretty disturbed by having your digits near my crevasses

  • It seems to have reach a point where it has given up deflating. I don't know what to make of this.

  • the tape is not seated very well

to retape id suggest warming the roll of tape - the glue works better and it tends to conform to the shape of the bed better. then install a tube and pump up so the tape is even better seated

remove tube, put in valve and it should work

  • it may be that the pressure has now flattened out the leaky spot. you have options, fill with jizzz and hope for the best or re tape it

    or just give up entirely!

  • I might ride it and see if it holds. If not, I like the re-tape option, then jizz.

  • Hmm, I don't think I have 28mm Tesa tape, I think mine is only 19mm, so likely no retaping just yet.

  • Assuming it's not leaking too much I'll just put jizz in and see if that works. It usually does.

  • I have got some tubeless valves that have a plastic wedge shaped to match the asymmetric rim profile. Does the rubber O ring go on after the wedge is fitted and then followed by the threaded retaining nut?

  • If it's the rubber O ring I'm thinking it goes between nut and rim. stops rattling I guess.

  • Thinner tape should be fine just overlap it. What you might have done speaking from experience is at some point knocked the valve which is effectively glued to the rim and broken the seal, so it might just be case of sloshing enough sealant on there to get it stuck back.

  • Anyone used the black Tesa instead of the yellow tape? Seller says it's better but they would.

There's no 28mm Tesa tape. Am I going to have to do two side by side wraps of 25mm? Or is there a 28mm tape I can use?

  • Yeah, didn't have any problems with the rims I taped.

  • I'll probably buy their specific 28mm tape, but it's twice the price of the last lot of 19mm Tesa I used. They don't seem to do 28mm generic tape.

  • Cheeky, they show you a massive roll of tape, but only give you 8m of it:

  • Malcom at cycleclinic for tesa rolls.

  • I’d try over lapping the tape, it worked fine for me using 22mm tape on 30mm rims. Was using WTB tyres though, and you know what they say about them. And I can’t remember if my hunts were already taped 🤔
