That's got to be the bargain of the century. Congrats.

Woah. Good work there. Where do you find these bargains?

@JB @kboy cheers! But just to be clear they aren’t Aldens - I was passing the shop on Regent Street and had said to the wife she should check there as she’s been after some redwing - found some black Kenton Indy-a-like for £124 down from £277 and was tempted but they were a bit ‘plasticy’ - walked round the corner and found an older pair in a nice chestnut brown that look like they’ve been chucked around in their box and have scratches all over for £80! The leather felt much better than the current colourways and they are welted but have the same J Crew branded commando soles, but once they have worn out I’ll have the option of changing for something nicer 👍🏻👍🏻

Ahhhh I am with you. I was under the impression they were a pair of Alden for J Crew boots.

• #6640
Yeah, I wish they were but still happy with them 👍🏻👍🏻

Totes.
Speaking of Alden. I proper want a pair of these cordovan Horween No 8 Longwings, but I just reckon they're not worth the asking price:

They’re lovely, and compared to the prices of the latest hype trainers they aren’t too bad but I think I’d go for Crockett and Jones in that price range (slightly cheaper even) - the Indy boots are probably the only ‘merican footwear I’d spring for if I could.

My Alden unlined penny loafers are a thing of pure joy - easily out do any of my others (trickers, grenson, gucci, church's, meermin, C&J..etc)

@Tenderloin interesting. I'm really quite taken by my few of pairs of Yuk's and Tricker's. I should probably try some on at some point.
In what sense do they out do the rest?
I should probably get to Alden on Madison and take a peek - only fifteen mins from work!
Saw this photo and I was sold though, to be fair:

saw this photo and I was sold
Horses for courses, but the macky-d's arches weren't noticeable in the promo shot... whereas from above you could never un-see it!
(then again it is a US brand, so arguably part of their heritage ;)
Defo check out the store tho - it's nice. I guess from a UK perspective there is so much choice I wasn't sure what the advantage was for the classic leather shoes I'm likely to wear (and I was always conscious of excess stuff and future luggage limits). But as you're there for a while it makes sense.
Still think the casual and work boots are the way to go as they've got some sort of differential vs trad. Northampton shoes.

Hah - I think you've ruined them for me forever ;-)
Yeah, I'm not really bothered about that. We've kind of set up shop now, with having a dog and all. Looking at moving to Los Angeles next summer anyway, which has been my life goal since visiting in 2014 and several times since on a yearly basis, so yeah... here for a while.
The Alden Indy is really not my jam to be honest. Not my kinda shoe at all.

Holy shit C&J are expensive in the U.S.

Bought these grensons off ebay for £50, quite pleased. Except the heels have a metal bit on them so I sound like an evil nazi officer when walking.

Quarter iron heel blakey? Easy to fix, get a new heel put on at a cobblers. Quarter irons are great for reducing wear, terrible for all other reasons. Beware anything slippery or shiny or wet. You’ll go flying.
Rossi and Redback would be better alternatives to Blundstone.
