I get what you're saying and agree it's very important to report accurately, yet in a case like this, where the whole situation is backed up by sattelite imagery and it's fucking happening on such a large scale does it really make a difference whether the picture of burning rainforest is from today or not?
It's not like some folks try to fake a scenario here where there isn't one. -

No, some folks will claim the scenario is fake or exaggerated though if they can show some pictures aren't from the actual issue. So it helps their propaganda war. Why give them the help?

My point here is that people should do a little fucking due diligence before getting on the hype train and opening themselves up to potential counter claims from climate change deniers who will use any reason to discredit their posts.
Also some of the photos aren't from the Amazon so....easier to claim fake news.
I am not saying its not important for it to be raised or that more people talking about it is a bad thing.

again yes, it's important to be precise in my opinion - and in an ideal world even on Instagram people would double check everything before posting.
yet in a case like this, where the whole situation is backed up by sattelite imagery and it's fucking happening on such a large scale does it really make a difference whether the picture of burning rainforest is from today or not?
You can't seriously counter-claim or say the scenario is fake or exaggerated if you can see the fucking smoke from space.

Maybe not fake. but exaggerated? yeah you really can. Even the merest hint of incorrectness can be jumped on and amplified.

This was a deliberate effort by logging/farming companies to clear protected and indigenous land. They agreed on August 10th as a 'day of fires' knowing that Bolsonaro would have their backs. He also recently appointed a climate change denier as minister of environment.

how does a rainforest catch fire ?
aren't they usually quite wet
The Snopes article does a good job of explaining this.

I dunno. Snopes reports that NASA recons that the fire activity overall is below average in the last fifteen years.
I think it would be really help, when sharing what we consider to be news, to use images of the actual news as per convention, and not use images of something else or images of a similar thing but from a different time, should we want to avoid inadvertently sending out a strong bullshit signal.

As someone who's lived in that (very) general corner of the world for quite a long time, it's 'funny' to see how people suddenly jump on this issue. Yeah uh this has been going on for a very long time. Not just in Brazil by the way.
It's great if people were to actually care more now of course, but pretending it's a new phenomenon or something is being blind to reality.

Holy shit we agree on something
-
• #57889
It's sort-of beyond me that some people are happily nitpicking about whether it's like 3.4 or 3.7 equivalents of soccer fields that are burning away every fucking minute.
People in charge in Brazil are actively exploiting the rainforests, and they openly say they will do this even more agressively in the future.
It's a huge problem, mkay.
Everbody keeping themselves busy going mi mi mi mi and relativizing and pointing out this is nothing new etc. fucking be my guest, you're missing the point. -

It seems the Boris Johnson ‘foot on the table’ picture was not all that it seems. According to Sky’s Tom Rayner, Johnson was responding to a jokey suggestion from Emmanuel Macron that the table would work well as a footstool. Johnson put his foot on the table only very fleetingly.
Sorry Boris, you useless dicksplash.
