Apparently the mineral resources of Greenland are worth about a trillion dollars and strategically very important too.

Trump undoubtedly sees this as either a political legacy or simply a new shill to sell a few hats.

is he trying to purchase greenland for himself? if so, then surely he can't 'cancel' a diplomatic trip because of private business saltiness?

I think it's admirable that he at least tried to buy it, rather than "finding" weapons of mass destruction, and carpet bombing the place.

someone posited this morning on the today programme that it's all an excuse to cancel his Denmark trip. Apparently Obama's due to visit the same univerity that Trump was due to speak at later this month and he didn't want there to be a direct comparison between the two events

Keep seeing on social media people saying the news aren’t covering this but makes me wonder whether anyone has actually checked.

They are starting to cover now, yes, after the sky has gone dark mid-day over São Paulo (3000km away).

This is going on for about two weeks now (there's satellite imagery that clearly show fires starting all over the place at August 10).

You do not approve that some people mistakenly illustrate the situation with a photo that's not from 2019 but from 2018 or something?

Stuff like this can be jumped on to question the validity of a story by certain folk with certain agendas, see Brazils pres. Accuracy of reporting can be important in that respect to ensure the story is the story and not the validity of the story coz someone used a stock image!
