  • The Newspeak demonisation of the tag "Liberal" has been growing in the US with the rise and rise of right wing Neo Con extremism over the last 3-4 decades.

Wow, this guy. I thought he was a bit...confused in this political views (he wants more control, but not for ordinary people cos he was against having an English council setup) but this is pure authoritarianism little Englander style.

Maybe I should read his blog to give him a fair reading, but then...sounds like it may just be so much unpicking that I may better use my brain time for something else.

  • The Newspeak demonisation of the tag "Liberal" has been growing in the US with the rise and rise of right wing Neo Con extremism over the last 3-4 decades.

I find it a very useful indicator for whether I am talking to someone who has formed views through their own knowledge of British culture and politics, or someone who has picked up views via social media.

  • Is this Dominic Cummings "you can't stop us from forcing through a no deal Brexit" stance a ploy to ensure MPs do stop them from forcing through a no deal Brexit? Thereby riling up the public and guaranteeing PM Boris with a healthy majority until 2024?

  • That is one theory, the other is vulture capitalism and they really want a no-deal.

Cummings is a strange one, he never wanted no deal and complained about the government after the leave vote. Now he is in it...

But read my link above, maybe he does want a super hard Brexit now. Cos "little Englandism".

  • I did try to read it, but the Independent website is so horrible these days...

  • Fascism thrives in times of economic crisis. That's certainly why Bannon wants Brexit.

  • Anyone who describes themselves as "Classical Liberal" may as well have "Cunt" in their bio, other than that Eejit seems to be simply othering anyone of insufficient political purity, whilst seemingly supporting the right wing wet dream project of Brexit, which is a whole range of views to keep under one hat.

  • Really?

I just read them as pointing out the failure of mainstream politics from engaging / delivering on the issues that are important for brexit voters.

  • It's worth reading DC's blog (although I haven't for a while).

It might be more helpful to think in terms of his underlying motivations, which based on my reading is a fundamental shake up and restructure of how the country is run and managed.

Interestingly though, my original interpretation was that BJ is the sort of person who is the absolute epitome of everything DC should loath in the polical class.

  • Even more terrifying

  • I understood he wants a shake up as well, from a BBC article on him, but I don't get the impression he wants us riff-raff to get a say.

Brexit creates strange bedfellows. The enemy of my enemy..? But then he doesn't give a **** about parliament, as he's held in contempt, or the truth within a more defined context than "I am right" so...perhaps they are a good match after all :p

He seems to have written some unsavoury stuff about genes and people with disabilities, I may need to check that out if I can stand it.

  • surely? ;)

Stolen from Guardian Cartoons, I think Steve Bell depicts him as such.

  • I mean, it’s a distinct political philosophy dating back to the Englightenment, but sure, let’s say it doesn’t exist, I’m sure that won’t piss off the historians

for the gamut of mainstream/acceptable political opinion

This was v wrongly phrased tho, as Brexit is very clearly now part of the mainstream/acceptable political opinion, and Brexit is obviously a challenge to the liberal order (part of a pretty global phenomenon, which should be unsurprising given how hard that order shat the bed in 2008)

  • Lol thanks, I knew two years of studying the history of political thought was a waste of time

  • Lol, I don’t support Brexit, thanks

  • anarcho-socialism is the only way

    Fuck yeah

  • Is it though a challenge to "the liberal order" though?

It looks to me it is pushing power from one group of liberals into an even worse one (disaster capitalism style). Do you assume all of the liberals that are ok with free market economy think the 2008 crash/disaster capitalism are just grand?

If only anarcho-socialism would scale to countries, there always has to be some asshat with an army screwing things up. There is a group in Spain though that has had a small society since about 20 years though. (that is excluding other parts of the world/societies I know less about yes)

  • Lol, I don’t support Brexit, thanks

? Certainly seems to be a theme in your posts that goes that way, I was sure you did.

  • The term is a useless catch all for the gamut of mainstream/acceptable political opinion you disagree with.

    ftfy

Bingo. 'Liberal' in this country is following the usage in the US meaning 'not of my political tribe'. Much loved my people whose political views are mostly political purity posturing, like @Eejit
