  • Yes, and just wait until you taste cashew cheese. :)

    That's proper vegan cheese.

  • I can't tell if vegan cheese is getting better or my standards are getting lower/ I've forgotten what cheese is meant to be like in the years since I last ate it. I really rate most of the supermarket own brand stuff, especially Sainsbury's. I've not tried the Bute stuff but will keep an eye out for it. Are there any big chains that sell it? I'm a bit limited for choice of health food/vegan food shops in Leeds compared to London.

    So much this 😄

In Cheasy news I recently tried Lidl’s vegan pizza. Crust, tomato sauce and cheese was all really good although the cheese kind of stuck to your teeth like melted plastic, but flavor was great!

  • Anyone got suggest for places to eat in Prague? Me and my gf (also vegan) are there for a few days! Also, any suggestions for stuff to check out would be appreciated!

  • There's loads of branches of Loving Hut, it's a bit like Tibits. Maitrea, Amitabha and Vegans Prague are also good.

  • Thanks! I've been to a Loving Hut there before actually. Years ago though.

  • Yeah I didn't love it either

  • Not this week, or Weds/Thurs next week. That's as much as I'm sure of for now, as I'm travelling a lot with work at the mo - in sunny Leeds again now.

  • My wife and I ate at http://www.lehkahlava.cz and I remember it being really good (but this was three or four years ago), there is a nice bar almost next door called the hemingway bar which was quite good too. It's also near Charles Bridge (features in Inxs' never tear us apart videoclip) - watch the pickpockets!

  • I was in Prague last year - can't remember anywhere by name, but found some really good eats. Basically, the one that was #1 in the TripAdvisor rankings was ace - it may be the same as @molly's one, as it was near the Charles Bridge.

edit -just checked the link, think it is the same one.

  • Let me know when! Have a good time in vegan Leeds.

  • Here's a completely vegan recipe page by Yotam Ottolenghi. As I've posted a couple of times before, I like it when someone who usually does omnivorous stuff does something vegan.

    https://www.theguardian.com/food/2019/jul/20/yotam-ottolenghi-chilli-recipes-aubergines-cascabel-butter-bean-celeriac

I want to make the celeriac recipe sometime, but certainly not while it's so hot. :)

  • Thanks for the tip! Will try and track it down!

  • Bit of a dredge bit just saw this .

Did anybody ask what sort of trek Liz will be doing? Is there any chance she will need to wear crampons? Is it on hiking paths all the way or will she need to traverse scree slopes or scramble at any points?

  • Anyone know any vegan milks, preferably oat, that come in small (200ml ish) containers?

  • Can confirm Prague is pretty great for vegan food! We didn't get a chance to check out Lehkahlava but would recommend Moment, The Donut Shop and Burrito Loco. We'd heard good things about Belzepub but the burger was a bit disappointing.
Burrito Loco is especially good because it's 24 hours and sells frozen margaritas. We had a great time just hanging out in the nearby park, drinking margaritas and ogling the local dog population.

  • Thanks for reminding me of Ottolenghi!

Been a while but I cooked quite a few of his recipes and enjoyed basically all of them a lot..

  • A fundraising appeal for the animal sanctuary run by Fiona Oakes:

    http://fatgayvegan.com/2019/07/23/save-tower-hill-stables-animal-sanctuary/

If you haven't heard of her, there's plenty of information out there. She's an incredible runner. I met her a few years ago on World Vegan Day at Karamel and it was really quite remarkable how she had been discriminated against. Sad to see from this that it has continued.

  • So, I don't know if I should keep posting these--because there are bound to be more, some people not being hugely original--, but it's worth being aware that these idiots exist.

    https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/protesters-who-ate-squirrels-at-vegan-food-fair-guilty-of-causing-public-distress-a4196221.html

Needless to say, I haven't clicked on the video.

I think I'll stop posting them now, as it feels like an invasion of this thread, and some basic awareness is all that's needed should you come across people like them.

  • Surly that's like us going to a meat festival and eating a raw carrot? I don't think it helps that these idiots are getting reported on... if they didn't then they'd get bored and give it up.

  • It’s nothing like that - eating a raw carrot upsets nobody, whereas this is vindictive, bullying behaviour intended to upset those too ‘weak’ to conform to their outdated norms.

  • I probably would have punched him in the face if I was there, which wouldn't have helped anybody, except me.

  • Vegan blackcurrant ice cream donut sandwich from The Donut Shop in Prague. I've put on so much weight since we got here. Our flight got pushed back a day as well so going to keep at it I reckon.
