  • Can anyone recommend some good energy and recovery food that's not too hard on the stomach. I've been struggling with both pea and soya protein powders and can't keep eating nuts. Sweet potato and bananas generally work well for energy but they're getting pretty boring.

Since turning Vegan i haven't figured what to eat when i feel wiped out and it's becoming more common. I've just played a brutal game of Basketball on my lunch break and in days gone by when i felt this broken i'd head to the fish or steak counter.

  • try coke

  • Protein powder, oats, bananas, peanut butter, agave syrup, coca powder or melted chocolate. Mash together, bake for 20 mins. Best post workout flapjacks ever.
Rice with beans and TVP, pasta with tofu, hummus sandwiches... any meal with protein and carbs will do the job.

  • Protein powders seem to mess my stomach up (aiming for 1g per kilo) but the rest sounds good. Gonna give seitan a go as it seems high in protein.

I try and limit coke to performance reviews and work pitches.

  • fair enough

  • Protein for recovery is overrated.
get greens and wholefoods (not synthetic powers) that are rich in anti oxidants and nutrients. Obviously get protein in.. but you dont need that much in my humble opinion.

sleep is arguably more important than nutrient intake and thats vegan so go crazy.

Eat and Run is a good book by Scott Jurek. Former ultra marathon superman. talks fuelling before and after some to the hardest running events out there. good starting point..

  • I agree with this!

  • when are we going for a recovery smoothie?

  • I actually thought you guys were talking about having a can of Coke.

  • The shitty corner shop round the corner from my house which sells almost exclusively polish lager and crisps has started stocking vegan magnums. 2019 is mental

  • Polish lager, crisps and vegan Magnums - you never need shop elsewhere ever again...

  • Vegan almond magnums are currently £2 for. 3 pack in Sainsbury's.

  • Tried the vegan pizza from Papa John's the other day, and it was pretty good. Feeling sorry for myself after busting my knee at hockey, so went online to order a pizza. THEY HAVE VEGAN MARMITE AND CHEESE SWIRLS! Needless to say I ordered two portions....will report back.

  • I'll check back in in a couple of weeks with an update on the scurvy situation.

  • oooooooooooooooo. yeh let us know

  • They were banging! Would defo order again.

  • If I’m working from home and I do a workout in the morning I’ll make a big quinoa salad for lunch, and eat peanut butter out of the jar. Puy lentil salads are good too. Oat bircher & fruit in the morning. Rice based meals the night before. Both rice and oats have a surprising amount of protein as well as carbs. Also loads of sweet potato, but you’re on that one already.

I’m not vegan so I also eat Greek yogurt on training days, sometimes mixed with peanut butter. The yoghurt is 10% protein, there might be a high protein plant based yog out there too.

I’ve also had soya and bean based pastas which are mad high in protein, like almost 50%. This brand have lots of variations.

Oh also Forgoodness Shake and at least one other brand now do plant based recovery shakes. Fresh / pre-mixed though so it could get expensive.

  • Depends on what companies you're buying from. I bought some powder from Bulk Powders a few years ago and it blocked me up... My Protein are ok although looking at how much shit goes into it, I wouldn't even bother with that... I picked up some Pulsin pea protein and it's just pea protein and nothing else... not that bad flavour wise but I guess I guess if you want a flavour, that's where all the extra ingredients come from.

  • Vegan croissants and Pain Au Chocolats coming soon. Will be out on 14th August and will be a quid as an introductory price.

  • Vegan croissants and Pain Au Chocolats coming soon

These are my downfall at the moment

  • Been looking for them to no avail sadly. Probably best as I'd just eat them all in one go.

  • Had a Ginsters vegan pasty whilst delayed by trains yesterday. The spicy morrocan filling was good but don't think the pastry was quite up to scratch.

  • I reckon I'm getting pretty good at this banana bread lark. Literally can't bake a single other thing though. Anyone got any other simple recipes I could have a punt at?
