I found it takes a while to get used to vegan cheese but these Follow your heart Gouda slices and the Pepperjack version are good in sandwiches.

Thanks for the recipe recommendation. I haven't tried any yet but it looks good! I made a few changes, I added some chunks of chocolate and walnuts to the mix and added some banana chips and walnuts covered in maple syrup as a topping.

Update: the banana bread tastes great as well. It came out quite dense though. I did totally wing the quantities.

Not sure how Marmite figures from the ethical POV, but the new Marmite peanut butter tastes to me just like very mature cheddar when spread on toast (and possibly when not spread on toast, but that's how I tried it). It almost sated my yearning for proper cheese on toast – something no vegan cheese has ever done. I didn't get much of a peanut or Marmite flavor from it, weirdly.

So, yeah, this has been posted elsewhere, but if anyone feels disposed to try the Heck range of vegan/veggie sausages, please be aware of their alliance with known cunt Boris Johnson:

In other news, I got a bunch of vegan croissants from Pride, and want to invent the vegan sausage croissant, of croissage. Can't think of what would be the best sauce for this - maybe HP?

I live in Leeds. Would recommend Bundobust for Indian street food, they do a good lunch deal. Tharavadu (directly next door to Bundobust) for really good curry. Knaves kitchen or Mog's for vegan junk food (Mog's is a bit of a trek from the city centre though). Nation of Shopkeepers does a really good vegan burger and has some decent beer if you're interested in that.
Cafe 164 has some good sandwiches if you just want lunch.
I've heard really good things about JJ's Vish and Chips, as far as I can tell it's a completely vegan chip shop. I've not been yet despite it being a 10 minute walk from my house.
There's also a few interesting street food places in the market. The Vietnamese place does a decent bahn mi and Moor Cafe does good falafel. The market is worth a wander anyway, there's some interesting stuff amongst all the stalls selling out of date quavers.
The violife block is better than their pre-shredded bags imo. So get the block and shred it yourself.
Another option we use more frequently is cashews:
Blend them with yeast flakes and some salt - parmigan.
Soak them overnight and blend them with some lemon juice - sour cream
Soak them overnight and blend them with yeast flakes - melted cheese on the pizza or the lasagna
For the pizza Bianca: soaked sunflower seeds blended with a clove of garlic, yeast flakes, olive oil and salt. Spread evenly in a thin layer, top with thin slices of potato and onions and some rosemary. It’s a winner even with the kids.
Oatly does sour cream and cream cheese if you can get them in the UK? They’re very good and very authentic
