  • Make that three. I had no idea either. Although I had no idea who she was and who she was married to either. I don’t really keep up with Royal news.
Who would have known Charles was married again? (Obviously not me) I thought the current lady was his girlfriend. (Notably I can't remember her name)

  • Although that is probably down to her total avoidance of celebrity news more than anything

That is a luxury. Or sounds like it to me, living with somebody who watches Made in Chelsea and similar things.

  • I meant almost entirely. Quite a lot of Rue Paul's drag race is watched in our home...

  • Your wife does put up with a lot.

Jesus. How unattractive a person do you have to be to make AN look good?

  • Could the US sustain a war against Iran and Venezuela, at the same time as its existing wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria?

  • Swedish prosecutors to reopen Assange rape case and request his extradition to Sweden.

  • I beg to differ . He's from Coatbridge. Big difference, and a total shithole.

  • The prepositions you use contains the answer I think. War against would be too pricey, but war in would be doable. Set up a base and do a bit of shooting and bombing from time to time, never really fully defeating anyone. Good for morale.

  • That presupposes that the US can keep the war inside the specific country- casually bomb Iran, then tell them to behave.

What if it spills out? I’m not saying that Iran might invade the US, but striking for e.g. Israel as US proxy seems likely, potentially Saudi as well, and then the whole region may go up.

  • the chain’s 531 employees

    Awesome.

  • The company will pay Richer an initial £9.2m for the stake but the businessman is giving £3.5m of that back to staff, who will receive £1,000 for every year they have worked for the retailer.

The average payout will be £8,000 but there are 39 employees with more than 20 years’ service who stand to receive substantial windfalls.

Average is 8 years? That's pretty amazing for a retail company.

  • “My father dropped down dead at 60 so I am very keen for this to happen in my lifetime,”

    wait... wut?

  • I knew I was doing the right thing buying my hi-fi gear there... This makes me believe in the human race a little bit more...

  • My first ever salary after uni went into the tills there. Still have the amp.

  • My first dole cheque bought me a stereo there!!

Marantz turntable and amp, Hitachi double tape deck, JPW mini monitors (which I still own, tho' I think I may have bought them a few years later)... Don't think I bought a tuner, I'd stopped listening to Peel by that stage, there was nothing more he could teach me...

I still use the Cambridge Audio amp I bought from the Fulham Road store in the very late 90s... And my Sony tuner!!

I also bought a Samsung Smart TV there, gave it to my in-laws because we had no use for it (it was our wall mounted bedroom TV in Brixton) but they've done nothing with it... I should get that back and chuck it in my office as a gaming screen...

  • My first pay cheque bought me a minidisc deck at the Bristol branch.

  • I suddenly feel very old...

I bought my Sharp MDMS702 from a grey importer on Tottenham Court Road, recorded shows all over the world on that, it was ace... I still have it in a box next door... I must've been in my late 20s when I bought it... Great machine, dumped all my discs when I left my ex-wife, including the recording of an embryonic Lucero playing at my wedding party in Memphis... Ugh...

  • Same here for Richer Sounds. Still have all the separates (amp, speakers, tape player, FM tuner and 1210) bought from them in the early 90's. The only thing that has died and been replaced a few times is the CD player (not from them...!).

  • My deck was the Sony one with the latest and greatest ATRAC chip in it that was supposed to sound better than most CD players, due to their crappy DACs. It also had a PS2 socket so you could plug in a full size keyboard for naming tracks.

    I loved it.

  • IIRC the Cambridge brand is owned by RS
