Whereabouts in Scotland does that twat live? I’m up there on Thursday, might track him down with a Macdonalds finest primed and ready.

There was some cunt from Ukip on radio 4 this afternoon who was trying to defend the comments by saying they were jokes about NOT RAPING and whilst ‘rather risqué’ weren’t to do with rape but ‘not rape’!

Imagine voting for someone who would voluntarily call themselves "Count Dankula" or "Sargon of Akkad".
That's before you even get on to their reprehensible views.
-
• #56614
I would vote for Lord Buckethead though! I mean, if I could vote at all.
-
• #56615
Count Dankula is a good name wasted.

I find it a useful way to quickly filter people online. Much like "I'm not racist but", or random CAPITALISATION every third sentence.
Or finishing passive aggressive sentences with (...) .

Interesting you should say that...

I've encountered two people who didn't know that Meghan Markle is mixed race during the course of the last days. The Danny Baker thing was the first they knew of it. Race really is a long way away from some people's minds.

Race really is a long way away from some people's minds.
Some people have that privilege more than others. Which is fine if, when it is brought into focus for them, they're open to it. When white people say "I don't see race, so I'm above it.", which is quite a common defensive reaction, not so fine. Doesn't necessarily make them racist, usually does make them insensitive assholes.
There's been a significant section of British society who were very aware of her ethnicity right from the start and have been making her quite aware they're aware. For those with the luxury of not having to think about this kind of thing, realising that was their privilege would be a good way to start thinking about it.
Melvin Bragg once had a black American academic on one of his Radio 4 spots. She'd written something about why white middle class people saying "I'm colour blind" were dodging the argument and effectively supporting racism by refusing to see it. He completely lost it with her, barely let her finish a sentence, spent most of the show just attacking her. He clearly felt he was under attack. Revealed himself to be a total prick.
Ever since he made an appallingly stupid mistake, Danny Baker and some of his defenders have been flopping about somewhere in that territory.

Interestingly, one of those people was my wife, who is mixed race. Although that is probably down to her total avoidance of celebrity news more than anything.
For balance, she didn't know who Danny Baker was either, despite the fact he lives a few doors down from us.
Just to clarify my sharing the link wasn't an endorsement. Have enjoyed bits of his radio show some Saturday's, although at times it was awful, e.g. the recent Elinor Barker interview was painful listening, lowlight being "Do bikes still have chains?". The whole unfolding of events via twitter was worthy of the popcorn thread, and I'm thinking if he'd been of a significantly higher value to the beeb they'd have taken a different approach to his punishment.
